BSM too sensitive
Is there a way to make the Blind Spot Monitoring a little less sensitive? My point is that the BSM comes on with the car that didn't even approach my blind spot yet. the area of "sweep" for the electronic radar is too wide and gives off false positives. On the highway/freeways, this is good. But driving in tight traffic, this is useless and, frankly, dangerous because it's hard to trust the system. Just like there is a proximity control for the parking sensors, I'd be nice to set this so the "sweep" or "radar eye" is not so panoramic. Is there a dealer adjusted control for this?

Does this happen on both front side mirrors? If it does I can't think of why. However, if it seems to be happening on the pasenger side mirror do you realize that is a wide angle mirror? You might try adjusting the angle of this mirror so that it is closer to the side of your vehicle. Heck, you could try it on the other mirror, too. You may have them adjusted to far towards the angle of the lane on each side of your vehicle.

To the OP, I haven't had any issues of false alerts on any of my cars. You could always ask the dealer to verify that everything is in proper alignment, as I don't believe there are any available settings for sensitivity.
That won't address his concern. The radar sensors are in the rear bumper.

There should be user adjustable settings for this safety feature, come on Lexus get with the program.
It would just a matter of rotating the sensors down toward road to shorten the coverage with the flip of a switch.
The settings could be:
1) Responsible Driver
2) Alpha Male
3) NASCAR

I also found out today that BSM is momentarily slow to respond. An aggressive Dodge Neon driver with tinted windows (I couldn't even make out his face) suddenly appeared in my blind spot. I almost hit him. Just as he honked, the BSM beeped a moment later. I knew the NAV was bad before I bought the car but I gotta put the BSM in the useless category now.

Not sure if there is any way to calibrate the stuff, but keep in mind something may be too touchy and somethings can be too passive. Manufacturers have weasel words to protect themselves with these aids. Even the passive mirror have things etched on them that the other vehicle may be more closer than what you see. Then again the other vehicle may accelerate/change_lane too. Nothing beats being aware of the surroundings and then use these aids as additional info. Being engineer, I know that one should never be 100% dependent on them.

I was driving a loaner, an RC Turbo and yes the BSM was lighting up like crazy. When it lights up I look and I can see the car behind me, yards and yards away. I guess it is for your awareness, but yes the light was constantly on and flickering...

I've a '13 RXh, and I've never heard a beep. What am I missing (please don't say "the beep")?
