Default Engine air filter replacement 2010 RX350

I an not sure how to R&R the engine air filter. My 2010 RX engine filter housing splits vertically to allow removal for the filter. It appears the the battery and the cold air intake be removed in order to allow room to R&R the filter. Is there an easier way? Thanks for reading. Any help would be appreciated.

Default Remove air filter

Just remove the plastic engine cover on the upper right corner, which covers the battery and air filter. Its just four fasteners that you push in to remove and re-use, from there you'll see the two metal tabs that hold the air filter in place. I use Wix filters from O'reilys, found them to be better than the Denso brand from the dealer, both run $20 bucks.

ohhh... if he's talking about replacing the air filter (how hard is it to type out "remove and replace" if that's what he meant, to make it easily understood by others), the entire job took me less than 5 mins and that included vacuuming out the entire area, and the filter was $13.

And I believe the poster above this post has already laid out all the steps.

What do you find better about the Wix vs the oem Denso filters? Number of pleats? Cartridge construction?

Please share your part number used if you have it available.

Butt dyno was the biggest factor, throttle response was smoother and stronger. Initially used the Napa Gold brand, which I later realized were the same as the Wix, just different packaging. O'reilys are a lot more prevalant in the area, also they keep the Wix air filters behind the counter, so just ask the parts tech.

I have used a variety of WIX products over many decades and in a variety of applications. Quality has always been good so I have found little reason to change. Have seen quality slipping on a variety of other products and sadly a number of products are now made in China and quality is way down. If I see a sale on Amazon I will purchase there, however, I am not adverse to just going to the local NAPA to purchase. If you belong to AAA you can show your card for a discount at NAPA. Also, as pointed out previous the NAPA Gold oil filters are made by WIX as are the CarQuest Blue. Buying locally also allows me to check the product out before the purchase in case there has been a change in production to cut corners.

As for performance differences over OEM... I am not really buying it. Too many variables. Best thing is to purchase a quality product and change in on a regular basis.

Thanks for the help.
I opened the two tabs and and nothing moves, STUCK Is there a lid that is removed upward or does the front side move forward ? Don"t want to force in the wrong direction.

Has anyone R&R'd the OEM filter with the K&N air filter part # 33-2442 on their RX., approx. $45-$65, all tests indicate superior
breathing capabilities but I'm concerned about the damp coating on the mesh possibly causing issues with the MAF sensor. K&N obviously denies any sensor issues and guarantees it.
