Has anyone modded their Key? I don't carry any other keys (my mirror can open my garage door) and I don't use any of the buttons on it. The chip inside the plastic remote is about 1/2 the size as the casing so it seems like it could be built into a smaller case or built into a cell phone. Has anyone tried this?
Even if possible, you don't want that, as there might come a time when you unexpectedly have to let somebody use your car, valet, etc, and you'd have to give them your phone.
Why bother doing all that work? The key fob is pretty small so I don't see that big a deal just keeping it in your pocket, just take the snap ring off to make it a bit more compact. If you mess up any sort of conversion it'll be $$ to replace it. I don't see the benefit.
would be nice in a smaller case if you dont ever use the buttons!
Agreed. In addition to size, the buttons are far to easily pressed by other items in ones pocket or purse. I wish the fob had a button disable switch, like Apple puts on the top of the iPod.
