Default 2013 RX 350 Auto Off Headlights Question

We had a 2006 RX before the 2013 350 that we've now had for about 2 months. We normally leave the headlights on AUTO however I turned them to ON recently. It seems the headlights do not automatically turn off when in the ON position, the doors are shut and the car is locked with one push of the remote. I could have sworn that the 2006 would turn off after 30 seconds regardless if it was in the ON or AUTO position. They will turn off if you hit the remote lock button twice.

The owners manual only mentions that they will turn off when in AUTO and says nothing about being in the ON position. The Custom setting is set to 30 seconds and they turn off after 30 seconds when in AUTO.

I'll ask the dealer when we go in for the first oil change but was curious if anyone have any direct experience with this?

Got an answer on this one. The headlights do not turn off unless in automatic mode or you hit the lock remote twice. .

Mine is a 2010 so there may be a few differences but probably still similar. If you have the NAV, you need (while transmission is in park) go into the menu and settings, there you can set the time the lights will remain on when you leave the car. The doors do not have to be locked, just all securely shut. Every night when I park in the garage, I just make sure my door is shut and go in the house. The lights go out w/i 30 sec.

Good to know, I haven't yet had time to fully explore my 2010 rx350.

I have them set to go out immediately upon opening the door. I never trust these systems to work as advertised. I barely trust the little light in the fridge to go off once the door closes.

There is so much technology running when you wake up the Gen III RX, the auto off lights aren't even a drop in the bucket. Set them up and use what you paid for, they work and work well. Nothing there to worry about.

I agree. I had my headlight stuck on because my front door sensor wasn't functioning. I also noticed the light doesn't turn off until you lock the door, not just when you open them

That's adjustable also, it's on a delay. You have to set it in the settings. Your manual will have all the details. But if the front door sensor doesn't work properly, that's a warranty item.

I understand. Problem is that the timer on the headlight on feature doesn't start until you lock the door, not when the door is first opened. It sucks when you want to stay in the car for an extra 5 min to finish listening to a conversation on the radio.

Yes just had the sensor replaced
