Default What Are The Required Maintenences?

Hi,

My mother owns a 2010 RX350 and I just want to know what are the required maintenences? Today she went into the Lexus Dealership because her maintenence light was on. She's currently at around 15k miles and I thought she was due for an oil change (I have an IS250 that gets an oil change every 5k miles. I was not aware that her car uses synthetic oil which needs changing every 10k)

When she got there she was told that she doesn't need an oil change and she's here for the 15k mile checkup. Which includes checkup, tire rotation, and topping all fluids costing $300. She called me right away feeling that was too much. I told them not to do anything and we didnt need the car to be checked up.

So what are the required maintenences for this car? I just want to watch over my mom and make sure she's not getting ripped off by the dealership...

Could we just do oil change and tire rotation every 10k miles? When does the brake fluid need to be changed? Spark Plugs? Any other big service that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance

Go to My Lexus. Click on the Maintenance Schedule button and you can see the service schedule for any vehicle. Just plug in the year model trim line etc. and the current mileage and it will tell you what is due. It says until 30,000 you change the oil every 10,000, rotate the tires every 5,000 (too often in my opinion) and check this/check that. Brake fluid change comes at 30,000.

You may find in the material that came with the car a phamplet which also details the "maintenance" events/things to do & when to do them.

Check the maintenence schedule that came with the car and also check with a local Toyota dealer that can likely do the services for 50 % of that price quote.

The maintenance booklet is here:
www.lexus.com/pdf/service/RX_RXh_WSG.pdf

I just had my "60K service." The local Lexus dealer wanted $750+ for it.

I went to their website to check specials, and they were having a "Summer Driving Inspection" special - and it had almost all the "inspect" items on it, for FREE.

So I asked them to

1) change the oil and filter
2) Tighten/re-torque nuts and bolts of drive shaft
3) Replace brake fluid

I already had my tires rotated as part of my new tire package from Big O, I replaced the battery in my remote a couple months ago, and the air filter is easily (and more cheaply!) changed by me.

Cost was $305 instead of $750+ - and the inspections were all done for free. No problems noted.

Very resourceful. Not sure my dealer would know what to charge for tightening the bolts on the drive shaft LOL.

Hello Seniors(Previous Lexus owners),
I am a newbie and a new Lexus owner. Just wanted to know like how many of you do take your Lexus for scheduled maintenance every 6 months or 5000 miles which ever is earlier religiously?

From the scheduled maintenance log it appears like the actual service like Oil changes are only done once every 10K miles or 12 months and rest all are just like a visual inspections and stuff. The other major services besides the oil changes seem to be in 15K intervals like 15K, 30K, 45K etc. Also, how much do they charge roughly at this 5K interval when there is no oil change involved?

Paid $289.43 including taxes from a Lexus dealer for my 2010 which I thought was a decent price at the time. Had every scheduled maintenance items done such as the brake fluid and oil changes, air filter, tire rotation, key batteries, inspecting and tightening etc. The only changes were I did my own AC filter, and had them do the non required change out of all wiper blades, to come up with the final price.

Best place for prices, what I think is the best order:
1. Good relationship with your service manager.
2. Dealer website for any specials or coupons.
3. Call another Lexus dealer or two, even if not in your area, to make sure your dealer price is in the ball park.
4. If you don't need any warranty work, and are comfortable with Toyota, call them for an estimate.

Also explain you want the "best price" for the required scheduled maintenance services only, no add ons. Do your adding and subtracting of items after initial estimate. We travel, so have a different Lexus dealer most every service. Our odd number services are usually $87, but one time was going to be well over $200. When I questioned the high price estimate they said it included alignment and wiper blades, which I didn't even need.

I pay around $225-250 for my scheduled maintenance intervals in SoCal.

In this thread someone suggested the following:
"As always only ask for the services you actually need. Ask instead for the "X miles" service and they'll do the same work for 3x the price."
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post7418024

This makes sense to me but I wonder if they will still give you a loaner, which I really enjoy even though it may not be worth the extra cost I'm paying in services rendered.
