Meh! Kind of off topic but Lexus needs to improve its NAV. First, they should look at Infiniti's new NAV. I had the pleasure of driving a friend's '12 M37S and used the NAV. Besides the more detailed 2D maps, there's the awesome 3D bird eye's view of your route. Even I think BMW's current NAV maps are better than what Lexus is using...from the level of details on the car's wide screen display.

+1 !
lexus is late on this compared with premium competitors, hower, the positive things are a really easy to do nav program, location selections, etc. and above that, a clear map (easy to read)... but cartography is "poor" , not very sexy. Audi and bmw have now "google-like" cartography, approx. same picture when you go on google earth.

Hope they can upgrade their soft otherwise they will not be able to compete other premium cars even though this is not the only measurement for decision making but for those which are fond of technology, lexus may lose customers.

hate the whole interface on our 2012 RX450/350 when i select audio to change my satellite channel, it changes... when the sing ends and i want to switch to other channels, the screen does t stay on audio, it goes to the main screen and i have to fo throu three clicks to get back... and the blue tooth voice commands is a useless feature... it never understands what your doing... our other car is a 2012 Honda Pilot and the nav and screen features are so much easier to use

Tampa, forgive me if you've already done this, but did you turn off " Auto Screen Change" in the General Settings?

Like David said, you just need to tailor your settings. I found if you speak distinctly and annunciate toward the mike (above the mirror) the voice recognition works pretty well. At least it does for me. But no system will ever be perfect all the time. And it's sure a lot better than not having it.

I would like to understand how Lexus can justify $169 (plus labor!) for a map update. I understand (or at least I can justify well enough to pay for it) the huge cost of factory nav for the convenience and integration, but not map updates. Especially if they are downloaded from a "master database" as suggested earlier in this thread. There would be no media, packaging, or shipping costs!

What do you think the map company is charging Lexus for the update? Given the volume license Lexus must have, I would be pretty amazed if it is more than $10 to $15 each, and probably a lot less! I don't mind them making a profit, but .... Wow! There's a lot of margin in there!

The same way they can justify charging $400 for a tire rotation and oil change (called a 20K service)!

I keep waiting for the prices of the map update to come down, but I'm still waiting. With all of the competition from phones and portable units you'd think the costs would drop.

It won't break the bank to have it done, but I'll always feel in the back of my mind that I'd been had.

The price of the updates have come down over the years. They used to be $299. The gotcha is the additional cost of labor. It's a matter of figuring out if the changes are worth it. Personally I haven't done a single update. First time I tried a few months ago, my SA wouldn't let me. I'll rely on her to tell me when the changes are substantial enough to warrant it.

I will take it to a Toyota dealer for all service and save big bucks to use on anything else other than feeding the Lexus dealer

Lexus has to pay for the big screens, leather chairs, massages and free lattes.

Me, I take mine to Toyota. Sit on the folding chair. And buy a Pepsi out of the machine. 1/4 of the price.

I see that Toyota now has an HDD nav system in the new gen Camry. I wonder if a Toyota dealer can update the maps in a current gen RX/ES, maybe at a lower cost vs. Lexus?
