I'm unfamiliar with what "port installed" entails. The car is unloaded from a container ship at the port of destination and driven to the nearest dealership or there is a Toyota shop actually on the port? Or is the work done at the port of origin in say Japan?

Please explain how that process works.
Toyota/Lexus contracts work at port of entry for some options such as wood shift ****, hitch, etc. These items will appear on your window sticker as it's prepared there.
It's like a 2nd assembly line for small easy to do factory features.
So If I drove to the port, I'd see a building marked "Lexus" and they might do install work other than for new cars coming into port? The people working there are Lexus/Toyota employees or employed by some third-party?
Sorry, intrigued by these port installed options and port installers.
You are probably right about the tow prep package, and hitches, roof racks, cargo nets, wheel locks etc. I think clear bras are installed by a third party which is contracted with the dealer
David, I saw this on the LFA. It might give you an idea about port installed. Granted our RXs probably didn't get this level of treatment but I'm sure it's similar in some respects.
David, it is pretty unbelievable what Lexus does when the LFAs arrive here. Now if I could only see one of them up close and personal.

Seems like a lot of trouble to go through to install things like remote start and GBS. Have you looked at the install instructions for GBS? Obviously it would be easier to do it at the factory. I can't tell where mine were installed. Clear bra was done at the dealer by an outside company. That I know for sure because the dealer had a hard time getting them in so I could pick up my RX. I didn't want to drive off the lot without it.
