Default remote start... Anyone??

are there different options for putting in a remote start other then having an aftermarket type installed through something like a viper alarm etc.?

You can get the Lexus remote start from CL vendors like Sewell. Lexus does have some good, some bad points. For example, the car turns off when the door handle is touched. Some have complained about the remote distance being short. It works up to 75 feet. The car will stay on for 10 minutes and shut off. It uses the same key fob. I'm sure I'm missing some things but that's about it.

I've enjoyed having it on my 450h except hybrids don't get warm very quickly even with reomte start

mmm... doesn't make much sense for the car to shut off when you touch the handle. In south FL summer time and 100+ degree heat. my wife wants the remote start to cool the car down w/ the ac for the baby while she loads up the stroller and all the baby stuff that goes with it.

Another silly Toyota safety issue. It's not like someone can steal your vehicle installed the original way.Vehicle would stall with brake application.
A couple of years ago, you could get an aftermarket unit part install at the dealer and the vehicle wouldn't shutoff when door was unlocked, not any more.
I have the remote start from the factory.$375 is on the sticker is a decent cost.

yep, safety feature in case someone opens the car door, or also to prevent you from pushing the accelerator when getting in.

RXSF, good point about the accelerator pedal. Never thought about it that way. I don't mind the shut off feature because I'm sure any other system will probably involve using another remote. I wouldn't want that.

graph, your wife can use the remote to open all the windows and sunroof to let the hot air out (if it's programmed to) and then hit remote start to get the A/C going. The car would still turn off once a door is opened. Not a perfect system but worth it to me.

Not necessary though,.
Doors are locked and as soon as the brake pedal is touched(and it would have to be to shift),the car dies.
I've had remote start for years and never hit the accelerator when getting in.
Just like the NAV lockout,it's a BS Toyota safety feature.
Then again,I don't know if the cutoff is necessary with Smart Key because there isn't a key.Our Camry doesn't have Smart Key and it stalls when door are unlocked and can be set up differently like remote starts of other companies.

I just have remote starter installed on on my 2010 RX, when I use remote to start the car, I will have 45 sec from opening the door to override the auto shut off feature (by pushing the start button twice).

Oh, that would be nice, but mine does not work that way.

The car shuts off as soon as you unlock the door.

the compustar would be perfect for the fact it has the 45 sec delay. but then you have to have 2 remotes, right? tradeoffs....

The 2 remotes is a bit of a turnoff for me.
Heck,I'm thinking about getting the credit card remote that you keep in your wallet but it's pricey at $250 with Club Lexus discount..

I actually have the credit card key (included in my package), so I only have to carry the compustar remote. It was attached to the keyfob now cause I dont use it in the summer time.

Also, they help me link my power tail gate to my compustar remote so no need factory remote at all.

That works!!!

I don't know if the creditcard key would work with the factory installed remote start.
One way or another,I'd have to carry the standard remote during the cold weather.
The credit card remote would be a pain to take in and out of the wallet to use the remote start.
