I don't know how the smart key would work with remote start, if at all I thought the primary purpose of it was to avoid carrying the remote around. I think it's inevitable whether it's the Lexus remote start or another company's.

Do you mean the credit card wallet key?
Probably not.I don't think you can open the rear hatch with it.

I could open the rear hatch with the smart key. Dealer programmed it recently to work with two touches to the long button on the tailgate to open under power

I'm in the same boat as you if I get the smart key. Still need the remote in the winter for remote start. Not perfect but I'll live with it.

Yeah,I'm not going to get the wallet key.
Not worth it for 6 months.

I have the "wallet" key.
It does not have any buttons on it so it can't operate the remote start.
Since the range on the RX remote start is so short (compared to the Viper system on our other car), I find that it is not something I will use on the RX.

I agree, the cost is prohibitive. And to add insult, remote start on a hybrid is really not worth it. Only the glass defrosts, the cabin stays cold

Why cant Lexus just disable the unlock feature turning off the engine with Remote start? I think the system is useless if it shuts the engine off when you touch the handle. You can shut the engine off remotely using the lock button being held for 2 seconds. I just bought the 2010 and find it completely useless. Plus how much wear and tear is that putting on the engine having it shut off after a few minutes of idle? Can't say it is good for it.

The range for remote start is supposed to be around 75 feet. I've managed further once. But I find the remote to be sensitive at times. It's almost like I have to be directly in front of my RX to get it to work.

Do you have two remotes I called two dealers one in NYC and one when I was in FL they both told me that if they installed remote start I would have two remotes and the price was the same at both $575
