Intelligent Highbeam Headlamp system??
I purchased my 2010 RX 450h AWD on 30 June 2010 with everything but the luxury package. This includes the comfort package, navigation, and premium package.
The comfort package, per EVERYTHING I read (brochure, official website, owner's manual) is supposed to include this system.
However, the highbeams are NOT automatically turning off.
So, I called my Lexus service tech. He scoped the vehicle, and adjusted the sensitivity to "very light".
Lights still didn't activate, so I emaled Lexus from their official site. They looked up my vehicle VIN, and said the system was included and should operate.
I re-read the owner's manual, and I'm doing everything correctly.
Finally, I contacted my salesman, who says Lexus continues to charge same price for comfort package, but has dropped the intelligent highbeam system feature as customer's were complaining it was turning the highbeams off with the slightest ambience (regardless of how the tech's adjusted the sensitivity).
Bottom Line: I really hate it when companies continue to charge the same amount for a package, advertise it (per the Lexus website, owner's manual, 2010 brochure, etc.), and then not declare this when you purchase the vehicle.
Sure enough, I looked at my window sticker, and it doesn't state I have this feature.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
thanks,

Hmmm,
They discontinued the auto high beams midway through a model year? That doesn't sound right. It took me a minute to set up the auto high beams to work, but I think there's some type of indicating symbol on the headlight lever on the steering wheel. Not sure but I'll try and take a look later this evening and post back.

wow that is really random...feature is totally gone even on the website. Looks like only the LED headlights come with it now
edit: it is part of the comfort package for the RX350 but its a different set up for the RX450h. and the comfort package for the 350 is over 2K while the comfort package for the 450h is $800

Interesting; I appreciate the replies. Yeah, the salesman did research for 1/2 day, then called me and said it was changed secondary to customer feedback.
I've noticed there's a couple other things in the owner's manual that doesn't apply to any RX I've ever known (i.e. the vehicle height raises and lowers per the push of a button to accomodate loading, unloading, aerodynamics, and vehicle clearance?), but that's a subject for another string.
I'm curious to what you'll find when you check your own vehicle. It's strange to me that the mechanic was able to adjust the sensitivity via scope, but the system isn't "in" the car per the salesman, my experience, and the "Morony Sticker" i.e. window sticker with all the details of what's included in the vehicle.
I'm ****, so I shined a flashlight on the console (near the "power-ometer"), and sure enough, there's an "auto" with a headlight image there. Not that this means squat; just more info to confuse me.
Also, I've recently learned (after calling Lexus) that the "towing package" that we pay for, doesn't include squat in the 450h (vs the 350), but we pay the same price for it. There is no transmission cooler, no heavy-duty alternator; just perhaps an additional radiator for the engine. Nice, eh?
and the world goes round and round . . . .

Look behind your rearview mirror. You can see a boxy plastic piece with a lens type glass box shape.I believe that's the headlight sensor.
If you have this unit behind your rearview mirror, you have the option.I have it.
Your tow package should have an Auxiliary transmission cooler; Heavy duty alternator; Heavy duty radiator;

nope the towing package doesnt include all those things fo the 450h. Its different for the 350 vs 450h.
as for the air suspension height, that is for non US bound models, such as canada and europe. its 1 manual for the entire world, lol

Anita has a 450h and posted the trans cooler was behind the fog light on the driver's side making it more difficult to change the fog light bulb.

not sure, website no longer lists those things. Either Anita doesnt have the heavy duty radiator, or it was changed since her purchase
Best thing the OP can do is check his window sticker for tow pkg option and if there, will show the trans cooler etc.
One can hijack one's own thread.

Do you have that box with a lens box opening behind your rearview mirror?
haha, good point.
So yeah, the car does have the box with the lens, which is located just to the right of the rear view mirror post.
If this is like my BMW, then the lens has multiple functions, which include sensing rain drops for the automatic wipers, turning on the headlamps in low illumination, etc.
However, the system isn't turning on, even after the mechanic dialed the sensitivity up. The salesman tells me it's been discontinued, and sure enough it isn't included under comfort package items on the window sticker.
I'll have to ask the mechanic when I take the vehicle in at 5K miles, and say the system isn't working, and share his reply with the thread.

The intelligent high beam is set by pushing the headlight stalk forward. As I recall, the high beam light will come on the dash and stay on. Obviously you can tell how much I use it
The light detector looks like a box shaped camera lens behind the rear view mirror. When I tried it out months ago, the high beams came on less often than I thought. I attribute it to all the street lights by me. But when they did and another car approached, they turned off in time without offending anyone.
Going off topic for a sec, according to the window sticker I have the tow prep package with transmission cooler, heavy duty alternator & radiator (ball mount not included). Cost $238. And air suspension is a little overrated. You're not missing much.

Anita,
You're right about the procedure for turning the automatic highbeam intelligent system on. One more step (per the owner's manual) is required. The light stalk selection has to be "auto".
Per the owner's manual, when the automatic highbeam system turns on (thus, dimming your lights), an additional indicator light should switch on, inside the dash (just above the green light indicating your lights are on).
So, my dash does have this indicator light (I used a flashlight to find it), the car has the box with the lens, the mechanic found the software to adjust the sensitivity via scoping it, and the literature I have read says this year's model, with the comfort package, includes this feature.
In contrast, my driving experience is the lights don't dim, the indicator light never goes on, other cars "flash me" 'cause they're annoyed with the headbeams burning their retinas out, the window sticker doesn't list the system under "comfort package" features, and the salesman said it's been discontinued.
Okay, time for a cup-a-whiskey.
I think by now everyone here can see why I've been a weee-bit annoyed with my car!haha
Otherwise, it's fantastic. I call it "the stealth bomber". It's darned quiet (inside and out), gets 30+mpg, and drives great.
