auto ventilation question
For those with nav, with the fan on and the ventilation set to recirulation and auto on (both lights on that button lit) is the ac on? I have the auto ac set to off in the customized settings. The ac stays off with the std auto button but why does it come on when auto ventilation is set?
Automatic Recirculation Control*1=Models with navigation system
Automatically changes the air inlet mode to fresh air or recirculate mode according to the level of harmful elements in the outside air, cabin temperature, and outside temperature. Standard (Not Customizable)

But that doesn't explain why the air conditioning must be on at the same time. I don't see why automatically sensing the air freshness and selecting fresh or recirc air requires the use of ac. I want it to auto select air but not ac.
Well, I can't confirm your statement, but I wasn't recently at the dealer selecting the LPS and I remember there were settings for AC being auto on in a couple of different situations and it was possible to disable it. Defroster mode was one of them. Don't remember the rest. If I remember right, these were dealer only selectable options. You may want to ask your dealer if this can be modified.
Can someone clearly explain how to set and monitor "Automatic air intake change mode"?
The user manual is a little light on the topic.
Thanks.

to answer the OP, yes you have to have the AC compressor on, or if you keep pushing the recirculation button it will auto turn on the AC and you can turn on the auto function which is monitor the air coming into the cabin (smog, dust, pollen) and automatically close or open the vent to outside air

It also came with early 2010 models as well along with the sunglasses holder
I love this feature in ours along with the auto climate with AC. From my experience and research the AC compressor is a design that doesn't use a clutch like most standard compressors to turn the AC on/off. It uses a swash plate to vary the output from virtually 0 to 100% based on demand and driving conditions and is very efficient. Also since there is not a clutch the compressor is running when the engine is. I have noticed no change in mpgs during my testing with the ac of vs auto mode so I leave it on auto all the time and enjoy the comfort.
So don't be afraid to use the AC...
That's my two cents anyway.

Oh we have that auto on the far left too. there are two autos. this one just controls the recirculation. For some reason, the AC has to be on before it will detect outside smog and close the opening
