Default Any Comments about Chrome Wheels...?

My 2010 Rx - Hybrid will be into the dealer in about 2 weeks. Yah baby!! It comes with the "split" 5 spoke wheels. I would LOVE to have them chromed. Originally, the sales person (who is excellent I might add) said that if I have them chromed at the timeof purchase, Lexus would give them a 4 year warranty (something they would not do if I had the chroming done later.) Now, they say they highly recommend I do not have them chromed. Can't get real definitive answers...except that it would add tooo much additional weight.... and the engineers do not like that. Comments from anyone?

Personally I really like the 19" wheels which are polished and glossed as they are. And I've received 'nothing' but compliments on the looks. 2nd, it's hard for me to imagine Lexus Corp or even a dealer standing behind and aftermarket job with a 4 year warranty unless maybe the dealer is 'having' it done and there is a large enough profit margin up front they will just take the chance. If that's the case and you still want it done, then maybe find out where the dealer is doing it, and negotiate with them ???

Default Chrome Wheels

Thanks Jim, and you called it. The dealer was having it done for me ...UNTIL... their Parts / Service department stopped the show. Too bad because that Obsidian color would really look good with a little bling-bling as it rolls!

That said.....I think I'm just going to stay with the factory wheels (un-chromed) for now because I agree.... they look terrific.

you could always go with aftermarket chrome wheels at a later date if that is what you want.

Default Chrome Wheels

Thanks Stormforge, I thought of that too.... and for what the dealer wanted to have the original wheels chromed.... I could buy wheels AND tires. I'm going to wait and see how the vehicle looks, etc when it arrives. For now, I'll just be excited to get the thing and start driving it!!!

Default chroming rims

I have an '05 RX330 with factory chromed rims and 60k. Not a good idea. The chrome is peeling in a few places, but the worse problem is bead leak. Don't spend the $$ for chrome rims under any circumstances.

Interesting pcalde... I would have expected the chrome to peel over time, however bead leaking is not something I would have thought of. I have had no burning desire to chrome my wheels but I certainly won't have any such thoughts now! Thanks for the input.

I am quite surprised as I have had chrome wheels (not OEM but OEM wheels chromed locally) installed by our Lexus dealer on our four dark color cars since 2001 including the LS 460L and haven't had any of the issues you are mentioning. I do agree that the dealer prices were a little outrages, but I opted for the convenience of one stop shop, warranty, and reduced time & hassle.
