Loose Front Bumper From Canada
After driving out of my garage for the first time with my new RX....grew big wings on my rear bumper while driving on the Highway. both sides of the rear bumper came apart. Managed to get to the dealership and is now currently sitting at the body shop waiting on the Lexus engineers to "try" a new fix to resolve this issue. I also noticed that the front bumper started separating as well. Only positive spin I have is that my dealership for the most part were very eager to solve this issue and even offered an extended warranty for my troubles for free. The picture shows my "wings" while having to pull over to the side of the highway to try and push them back in.
that's a pretty bad bumper pic for sure. on the otherhand, dealer giving you extended warranty is awesome for the trouble you've experienced!!! kudos to your dealer for stepping up to the plate and trying to help you.
It escapes me why this issue was not caught during the testing stages of the new RX. Poor quality. Perhaps we can find some encouragement in the link below.

Im sure this will be a recall or TSB when people start complaining more.
but this is the first time we hear about the rear bumper...looks like you are holding it apart to make that gap though so its not as bad as we all think

Wish he can really make thier cars better.
Now that both bumpers do it, maybe it is a hidden design feature...bumper covers blow off in an accident. Lexus' version of reactive armor.
The quality promise didn't quite get passed down to the manufacturing plants yet.

The picture that I posted didn't even show the extent as to how far apart the rear bumpers were separating. Because I was going 70 on the highway they were being pushed apart even farther because of the wind. I heard a pop and saw the bumpers about a foot apart from the car itself. The separation is still about 2 inches from the body of the car without me holding it...and I was barely holding. The issue is on the inside of the bumper. My dealer did say that they are aware that the piece of plastic anchors and the small screw that actually holds the bumper to the car is too small of a contact point to avoid it from coming apart. The dealership guessed that maybe when the plastic's were being removed from the car when it was delivered that simply stepping on the rear bumper on the top black portion of it could have been enough to cause the separation and caused the small anchors to bend enough to come loose from the small screw. Either way the issue is that it needs to be stronger and a better contact overall. As for the separation with the front bumper.....They are still waiting for a retro fit to install. As of right now they are replacing the rear bumper and changing the anchor/screw design so it will be stronger......hopefully.
We were thinking about trading in my nav's 07 RX350 with 55,000 mile for an 10 RX. I have been lurking here for awhile and after seeing all the postings, I think it is prudent that we wait and let Mama Lexus resolve the first model year issues.

Thank you guys.

Thank you guys.
Lexus is having a lot of problems with fasteners lately, I know for a fact that the GS series has bad fasteners that cause rattles problems resulting in a number of TSBs already. The IS and the ES also have the same issues but to a lesser degree. Lexus should really start to pay more attention to the little things that made them what they are today.
I concurr with your opinion 100%, my concurrence is not based on any hearsay but from personal experiences. We have been a loyal Lexus customer since 1993; currently have in our driveway, 07 LS460L, 07 RX 350, 08 IS350, 04 LS430. At times, my kids question my sanity.
WOW....this thread is making me really think about cancelling the order on my RX 450h. If they can't even attach a bumper correctly, what else is wrong with this thing? So far, these are the issues making me really consider scrapping the order (not trying to burst bubbles here, just wondering what people think of this list on a $52k car):
1. The front bumper issue discussed here
2. Now a rear bumper issue that grows "wings" (apparently this thing is now a maxi-pad)
3. Extremely poor control of iPods (seems stupid to me since Ford has had this down for almost 4 years)
4. Very mixed reviews about the voice control. I know in the showroom it could not recognize "Murray" for the street name, but my Honda Pilot and Honda Accord recognized them just fine.
5. The inability to use the joystick when you are driving. This is particularly annyoying, considering that the voice may often not work correctly.
6. Complaints of some finishing that I would expect in a $52k car (certain things not lit at night, chrome falling off the car, extremely dimly lit glove box)
Now, outside of the iPod issue, my Honda Pilot has never had ANY issues even close to these. I really like the styling of the 450h and want a hybrid, but now I'm really having second thoughts.

I've been one that's spoken up about some differences from past RX models but even today they wouldn't sway my decision to not buy. It's a wonderful car in every right. It's loaded with features and works well. So when you take the total numbers there will be a few problems. Definitely they are in a minority.
Keep in mind also it has a great warranty period and Lexus has a very good rep w/Consumer Reports.
