Therefore, our dealership will not embark on any repairs without Corp nod. Man, sucks to be us. We are open to suggestions...call BBB? Try Corporate again? Not sure what else to do if Corporate says no. As with other issues, it seems that's the end of the line when that happens.

Yes, time to go through the 12 pages of this thread heh heh. My training has been such that if fired upon, return fire with something bigger; would never make it as a Senator.

My skepticism is such that the official Lexus Corp. policy may ultimately end up denying everything, so I want to get my repair done yesterday...I've lost faith in their commitment. . Well, supposedly a survey is coming (took car in for 5k) so I'll certainly use that as a forum for my displeasure as well.

On another note, someone in another thread mentioned about the 10k service being free (was in NY). Anyone heard that before?
It always takes time to develop the fix, especially it's not the life-threaten case. It will be hard to make the carmakers understand and admit this type of case. However, once it's fully recognized and researched, the official fix or TSB won't be too far away.

As for the free 10K services, I doubt you can get the free one when jumping to the any particular new dealers and asking for it. My 10K will be free, but this is written on the contract when purchasing this car. We tried hard to get all the discount/bonus we could get. I know my friend would receive 15K for free, but he didn't have good discount off the MSRP.

I think there has been more than enough time for a company which prides itself on quality to have addressed this problem. I continue to be confused by this subject when some dealers say Lexus has issued a fix for this problem and even visited their facility for this purpose.
If I was not getting anywhere with Lexus I would write a very detailed unemotional letter to Lexus and at the bottom note a copy sent to your state attorney general's office. In the past that has gotten results for me that a letter from my attorney didn't produce.

Ahhh, thanks for clarifying rxets...didn't think it was "standard" for 10k service.

bugs bunny once said "i talk softly, but i carry a BIG stick!" if diplomatic efforts to find a resolution doesn't work, try this: threaten to talk to the news, newspaper, BBB, gov't safety agencies, etc, etc, etc. just watch and see if they don't jump through hoops.

i had a huge problem with MB corporate when i brought my old MB 300E for body work and repairs due to vehicle accident. if you could believe it, car wasn't fixed in over 6 (yes i meant six) months! MB dealer i dealt with didn't give a rats *** when i complained. i called corporate and they didn't care either until i threatened to talk to newspapers and BBB about the bad service and BS i was getting. car was fixed within a week coz corporate MB came down hard on my MB dealer (dealer worked major overtime to get the car fixed). just my 2 cents and experience in dealing with corporate.

I'd say this Lexus isn't equal to that "Lexus" you're thinking about.

IMO, when the case cannot be fixed by the local dealer, they will report to the regional or next level's division/manager/inspector/technician for the review. Sometimes the smart regional guy/guys/team/teams can figure out the solutions then it will be reported back to the decision-maker or headquarters for the approvals when/if this requires lots of $ or labors. Once it's authorized, the local dealer will then follow the instructions and makes that happen. Other dealers in the same region may receive the note/summary/reference, but others outsides this region or area may not receive the information at the time that local dealer announces they have the solutions. And, depend on the classification of the case, it may not be marked as the primary service comments or suggestions when sending to other dealers.

Each carmaker has their own systems. I don't want to say my example is really what Lexus has been doing. However, the carmaker like Lexus, all their official repair or TSB will come directly from the Headquarters, perhaps the authorization from Japan is needed. Unless lots of cases are reported back to Headquarters, headquarters guys won't make efforts to research or review the cases, the official solutions won't be released.

In this case, I strongly believe it's not the TSB. But the local dealer can say whatever they like to convince you of their story. I really admire those dealers of their actions, whatever they've done has been making the solutions happen.

In this case, I know my dealer isn't one of them...

My front bumper is being repaired next week - it's "peeling up" under the headlights. With literally no other marks on it, I'd love to have a dealer try and tell me that I caused it somehow.

I've had my Cerulean Blue with parchment interior since end of August. My husband had read about this problem on this forum, saw mine had it and popped it back in. It has stayed in place ever since.

Default 2010 RX 350 Bumper Issue

We purchased our first 2010 RX 350 from Lexus of Albuquerque. Around 1000 miles, the bumper popped out under the passenger side headlight. We brought it in for repair three times. Everytime, it looked okay, and then after driving for about 50 miles, it popped out again. After the third time (they sent it to an auto body shop), they took the car back and gave us a new 2010 RX 350 (written up as a trade in). I had my 1000 mile service last week, then last night, the bumper is popped out again on the passenger side, below the headlight. The EXACT same spot. Our local dealers obviously were not aware of this issue, or they would not have given us a new one. We called, they stated they were unawae, but would be forwarding this message up the ladder. Another website, www.edmunds.com/lexus has a growing discussion regarding this same issue. This is obviously a defect. The manager advised that I call: 1 800 255 3987 and open a case with them. They contact the local dealership and the "higher ups". I advise any and all who have this issue to let their local dealership know and to call the 800 number. The more voices we have, the quicker we will have a fix.

Update: So after dropping my RX with Lindsay Lexus in Alexandria, VA, the result is:

Lexus is engineering a fix, and it's expected in 3 weeks or so. At that point, they'll be repairing mine, and I'll post the results here.

It's apparently not a consistent problem, which leads me to believe that it's a QC problem with the fasteners.

I talked to the tech that worked on the car and he told me he was on the phone almost a full day with Lexus getting the fix right. The repair involves a new design for the bumper, new brackets under the bumper and new clips.

Hopefully things will not loosen up again.

2 dealerships in NV one North one South, 500 miles apart.
Update 9/24/09
After almost 3 weeks and 1500 miles the new bumper, brackets and clips appear to be holding up. No gaps can be seen. Hope everyone else can get a fix soon. Will continue updates as more time goes by.

I suggest you read the Lemon Law for Florida, and continue to take the car in for repairs. Make sure you specifically state the problem each time.

Thanks Wes.
I'll probably have to pull a lemon out this time.

As someone who has gone through the lemon law process with Ford, I recommend that you document everything from the day you picked up your RX. And get a good attorney. Good luck.

Default Techinal service bulletin will be out in the next two weeks?

Mine is made is Japan. It's about 3 months old. The driver side front bumper is now having the same problem; it hasn't come off, but it's moved from its original position.

I was thinking about calling the dealership today. But then I read someone said on the internet that they were told by their Lexus dealership that a technical service bulletin will be published within 2 weeks.

Please post any information you receive from your dealership. Thanks.
