Cool A Loaner before RX Arrives?

Hey,

Is this a possibility ..?

Assuming you've paid for the car (through leasing company), and you are waiting 2 months for the RX to arrive ....

Is it reasonable to get a loaner car? Doesn't have to be '10RX, just any Lexus in the lot.

I have not heard of this before... And I don't think its possible either.

Plus why does it take that long to get your car? I heard the longest waiting time is 3 - 4 weeks unless you had yours customized.

2 months loaner?? Kind of long.

It seems possible. Some dealers do provide you the short-term loaner (Lexus in the lot) when your new vehicle is late due to Lexus' reasons OR you have traded in your old car and the new one should come in shortly OR prestigious dealers do this for you out of courtesy, etc.

HAHA.. No Lexus dealer would do it, but my broker/dealer is doing it for me right now.

I've been waiting almost 3 months now and they've given me a loaner since day 1 of ordering the RX. Not sure this is typical but they've gone through great lengths to get my business.

IT IS POSSIBLE.

When we ordered our first RX our dealership loaded us a new RX for 5 weeks at no charge. I suspect that would not happen in this economy.

Question

Perhaps, I have a naive question. Why would you lock yourself into paying for something that you have to wait for 3+ months? Specially, with cars. More than likely, you can get a better price after 3 months, if you shop around.

My dealer, Nalley Lexus of Roswell not even loaned me a new is350, they suggested I take my RX300 to Carmax to see if I could get a better deal than they offered me. I did by a lot. I left the car with Carmax and the dealer came by in the is350 and picked me up. I just had to take the driver back. But my new 450h should be in next week.

Still, it's great to have someone work with you that way. And the salesman Dave Jamison has been around for quite a few years and knows the importance of Customer satisfaction.

Why? Simple law of Supply vs Demand.

The car would not exist without the order. What is logical about going to a dealer and saying order this vehicle equipped this way and when it comes in we will talk about price? You can also imagine the same scenario, dealer says to the customer I will order your car for you, stop shopping for another car, and we will discuss price when it arrives. Nothing logical about that kind of business. This can work with any product; like going to a drive thru placing an order at the speaker and saying we will talk about price when I get to the window.
I ordered my first car in 1981. I shopped around and got the best price and place the order with the dealership. AND it was a hell of a lot easier getting what you wanted on a car then than with this past experience we have had due to Lexus crazy packaging.

I think only a handful of cars are built from customer orders. And I'd think they are given a low priority by manufacturer, if equipment is not mainstream (70-80% of orders). Its logical to place the order on a car that will be delivered within 1-2 weeks. Typically, you would leave a security deposit, or place an actual purchase order. Meaning, you buy the car without it existing yet, and if you already paid, you at full mercy of dealer and manufacturer for them to deliver the vehicle on time agreed. That's what I do not understand. If, for whatever reason, the car you ordered does not get there on time, you cannot simply walk away and say forget it. As thread's topic goes, its logical to assume the loaner would be given to a customer who is already paying for a car that is been built. Since dealer would never give you a higher equipped (or higher priced) model as long-term loaner, you end up paying more for your drive.

In 2000, I placed an order on 2001 Acura MDX. It was just coming out. Other dealerships were charging 2k over MSRP, waiting lists, etc. I put a $500 refundable security deposit, and I was given a build date in 2 months. Of course, dealer did not risk anything, as the model was high demand, but the point is, neither did I. If the car would not arrive on time, I could simply walk away.

Dealerships order cars from the manufacturer, not customers. The cars they order may be for stock and/or customers. I don't see any difference nor do I think there is any priority or distinction.
We have never paid MSRP, muchless anything over MSRP. I cannot speak to the deposit issue as we have never given a deposit on any car we have ordered both foreign or domestic. We have never had to refuse a car either, although we have had a few I wish had fallen off the truck.
