About a week ago, we placed a deposit on a 2005 RX 330... today, the dealer tells me that they have "preferenced" with Lexus - does this mean what I think, that they have entered an order for the car we want?

If so, what is the typical wait time for Lexus to fill such an order?

This means they have taken one of their allocation and changed it to what you wanted. (I just talked to a salesman yesterday who wanted me to commit today) He said that the order goes in today and the car would be built (beginning) October 18th and I would('ve) seen the car by the 2nd week in November at the latest. I think that's about how it works each month from what I was told.

 

It probably depends where your RX is being built (probably in Canada), but mine took about 77 days until it came into port (from Japan) and I didn't take possession until 84 days. It was well worth the wait!

 

i know my story is different, but i got mine in 1 month! (that was when the Gx first came out and everyone was dying to get their hand son one). placed an order on dec 18, got mine jan 17. drove out a happy man on Jan 18, 2003!

 

It means exactly what Husker4the said.. By preferencing, they are selecting your car to be allocated into their inventory.
