Hi I've been changing the oil on my 2013 RX every 5k miles since 2016. The last oil change at Toyota Service manager mentioned that oil changes are required every $10k. Said i could wait. What are your intervals?
If you drive most of the time on highway and taking long trips, 10k might be OK, for all other driving 5k is more sensible IMHO
As engines age there are more tolerances to components in general, so to me this increases chance for blowby gases contaminating the oil (have not done used oil analysis to this vehicle, but I have to my GM truck with over 220k miles). I live in the desert Southwest, so considered severe service. The idle is quieter since switching to 5W -30, but I maintain 5k oil change intervals due to severe service. You're going to get a ton of opinions on this as it has been discussed at nauseam. In other posts and threads. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Especially depends on if you tend to keep the car for a long time or just get rid of it in a couple more years.

I use a robust synthetic oil, like Mobil 1 10w-30 High Mileage, or a “Euro” 5w-30, and do 7,500 mile changes. I have tested that with laboratory analysis in several engines, GM/Cadillac 2.0 LTG turbo, Volvo 2.5t turbo, Toytoa 1mz-fe, 2GR-FSE. It has proven a safe distance in all those engines, normal driving mixed-use, nothing severe. The old es’s 1mz-fe is getting up there (340k miles) and is running wonderfully on that regimen, no oil ever added in 7,500 mile runs, even now.
5k is a little early to pull it, 10k can be too long. 7.5k is a nice safe distance IME, with a good oil.

I change my 2015 RX350 engine oil and filter with Valvoline High Mileage full synthetic 0W-20 oil every 4-5k miles. The oil is cheap(about $30) and easy to change myself on the RX350 so no big deal for me to do at that interval.
However, if you are paying extra money to an mechanic to change your oil then you could probably push back the oil changes to 10k miles with a good quality full synthetic oil without damaging your engine.
The Toyota 3.5 V6 engine do not have any force induction or direct injection that shears down engine oil; so maybe it can run a good quality oil for 10k miles and still be protected from wear. I personally would not run my engine oil that long in any of my engines.

One thing about oil analysis, it will not tell you if you starting to build sludge in sensitive areas like VVTI gears and etc…
I accidentally went 24,000km on some Castrol Synthetic one time. I had never done used oil analysis before, so I did it on that one. Apparently, it was still fine.

Did oil analysis check for sludge on your VVTI gears or for blocked oil passages? Originally Posted by ColAngus

Open your VVTI filters!!
Oil so cheap though... why not just change it.. and it is fun to do and makes you feel EXTRA better smooth!!!
