Hi all,

I've noticed a strange noise lately when I get in the car and turn the steering wheel. Below is a link to a video I shot where I turned the wheel lock to lock. This noise is generally only noticeable when I first get into the car and it is still parked. Not really noticeable when I'm actually in motion. Also, seems to be more pronounced on colder mornings.

Any ideas what it might be? I posted on Reddit and someone said to check the power steering fluid. But, when I do a search for that on the web I get hits that say this model vehicle uses EPS, so there isn't any fluid to leak out.

2010 RX450h w/about 101k miles

Mine sounds the same on a 2015 with 56k, and comes & goes (usually happens more when I have been driving a while). The noise on mine is coming from the steering shaft as it goes through the floor. I have sprayed the shaft with silicone; I will probably try some white lithium spray grease.

Doing some searches on this site there is this problem and the rattling in the steering problem (a whole different issue). IIRC...some members have not worried about this "rubbing" sound and have not had any further issues.

Would love to hear more replies on this...!

Minor issue: I took mine to the shop and the retorqued the steering rack. It has been fine after that.

 

Were you getting that same rubbing sound from the shaft at the base of the floor...as the shaft goes through the floor...?
