Default steering column noise

Hi, been having a moaning sound, coming from the steering column, when steering at a low speed. Does anyone have any info or been having the same problem. Thank you for your time in reviewing this message.

I also have this noise occasionally,
so that means it is normal?

Just had my steering column replaced because of rattles. Now it seems to be tighter and smoother.

We had the same problem. The dealer stated that the grease had dried up around the boot. They greased it and the noise is gone.

I am experienceing the same rattling noise from my 2010 RX. I checked with the dealer and they said that quite a few owners have had their steering columns replaced. I was wondering if anyone has tried to ask Lexus for a factory recall. i know it's ben a few years but may be it's worth a try? i will try through my local dealership and let everyone know if i have any success.

Hi, I should say that the car, while US Specs, is with me in Saudi Arabia and therefore getting parts for a US Spec car here is very difficult. I was planning on buying the steering column in either Canada or the States and bringing it back with me, Does anyone know the deminsions? Weight, Length, Height, Width? or is there a web site from which i can find these measurements? Txs

It won't be a recall because it doesn't affect safety. They usually create a Technical service bulletin (TSB) to correct only those vehicles that are affected

It is my understanding that because it is not a safety hazard, they are not recalling it. May 2014.
Mine is doing the same thing and it costs $2700 to replace it for a stupid rattle. Nah

For a "groan" just spray some white lithium grease under the carpet around the base of the steering column in between the black plastic thingie and the column. Then forgetaboutit. I have a 99 model and do that about every five years. The noise goes away and comes back every five years or so...

2013 RX 450H has the same 'banging' noise when moving the steering wheel from left to right. On the highway, from about 60 to 80, the whole column shakes. Feels like the car is going to bounce out of itself. Does not feel safe. When driving over bumps, potholes in the road, etc., it sounds like something is loose in the drivers side/front. One mechanic suggested its rack and pinion needing to be replace. No leaks in boots or grease anywhere that we could see. Sounds like what others have described as the steering column. Any other options? What is causing the car to bang on every bump, feels like suspension, but no one agrees on this? Other than steering column or shaft, what else could it be?
