I'm looking to buy another lexus. Any recommendations? Years? Trim? Things to look out for?

I used to own a 2nd GS. Great Car.

 

I have a 07 rx350 and love it. I would recommend looking for one with navigation and the backup camera. Also if u can find one; look for the hid lights as they are brighter than the regular bulbs and safer at night imo. Things to look out for; well; check if there are any hoses that need replacing, check that the oil cooler line has been replaced per the recall they had on that for second gens awhile back. Also one thing these second gens have been notorious for is a steering rack that eventually starts leaking which is big bucks to replace.

 

The gen2 rx's are great vehicles.....'04-'06's use the 3mz & the '07-'09's use the 2gr, both hooked to 5-spd's. Both motors are reliable & great motors. I'd look at condition, miles & options as well as color as I was looking at both. The 3mz's use a belt which need swapped out ever few yrs as well as the w/p. The 2gr's use a chain, main thing to do is to swap out the rubber oil cooler hoses for steel ones, such as Dorman offers. Yea the 2gr does have 40 more h/p, but I wouldn't turn down a 3mz powered rx if the condition, miles, options as well as color is what your looking for. Open your search radius up too.....

 

Felix and Matt above pretty much covered it, but I would add that I'd only consider RX's with complete Carfax reports, look for regular dealer service.
Also, find one with low mileage, if you can. Here's a pic of my RX before I bought it and had it delivered 750 miles to me (3 years ago).

 

Wow, thats some super low miles, as that will last you decades.....A great point to bring up is cost vs mileage, as thats what I thought about. I also did a quick look at a few early gen 3's..'10-'13's & figured the additional $4k to $7500. wasn't worth it as a gen 2 would suit our needs...

Second gen RX could include 400. Don’t overlook a good quality one. They are superb drive with buckets of oomph.

 

Varies engine choices, including the hybrid 400h.......I thought 'bout it, but I didn't want to deal w/ any hybrid issues.
