Upgrade or trade?
Hi,
I love my 2007 RX350 - the power balance is exactly what I need for the hills around my home. I've driven more recent 4cyl turbo cars like the Mazda CX-5 but in my opinion other than technology they don't compare. I would like to take an NX for a test drive but haven't had the chance. Question is should I simply upgrade my 2007 with Car Play, HUD, reversing camera and get the dings in the body fixed?I I can't stretch my budget to a new RX, but even then would spending another 60k get me so much more than I have now? Interested in feedback, thanks! (PS Also looking for advice on what to do with the cracking dash - I'm in Sydney Australia)

One of my favourite cities. I remember working around Mosman and living in Rose Bay. It is quite hilly in places on the north shore. I used to do deliveries for a liquor store.
I’ve learnt that if you’ve got a car that ticks all the boxes especially reliability stick with it You can upgrade with kits quite cheaply like rear view, PDCs etc.
I have an Rx400h that I really enjoy. I’ve done a ton of work on it myself (including currently nearly wrecking it by grounding live terminal like a dummy).
When you win the lottery you can head down to your local Lexus dealership and get that top of the range runner.

I would say stick with the rx and just upgrade the electronics because these rx's long term are extremely reliable and are worth keeping in the long run because with the right maintenance etc they will go to 500,000 miles easily. But yea just do the upgrades to the electronics as the amount of $ u spend to upgrade to a newer ride wont necessairily justify it per say.
My RX330 was just traded but I had at one point owned both. NX drives nothing like the CX-5 in my opinion, Mazdas always seemed sluggish to me and I also had a CX-9 as a rental, my new Q5 smokes both my NX and former RX under the bridge with that VW 2L turbo with dual clutch transmission.
Do test drive the NX. I'd say for that age, it's better to get a newer car with all the bells and whistles than pour it into a car that will start needing things alongside the upgrades you're looking to have done.

I'd stick with the RX 350, honestly the older Lexus from 1990s-2000s seem to be better built and have higher quality material materials. There is no comparison between a 2000s era Lexus and a Mazda with turbocharged engine. The older Lexus will still be running fine as a daily driver years from now, whereas the Mazda will likely develop rust or issues with the turbocharged engines. Even the newer NX seems to have lower quality interior compared to the 2nd Gen RX.
It makes no sense to spend $60k getting a new car just for technology upgrades- Spending $60k and buying a new car for those technology is like buying a new house because you want a newer TV in your home. I would spend a few hundred dollars and just upgrade to an Android/Carplay compatible head-unit and add a reversing camera and a HUD if you want the latest technology.

i agree; it doesnt make sense to spend 60k on a vehicle only to have the value start going down down down,
