Default shaking on braking

when i am braking from highway speeds around 70ish; my rx shakes pretty bad. It cant be brakes as as i just recently had brakes done and they should not need to be replaced yet. Suspension? bushings?

When you had the brakes done, did they replace or turn the rotor's? Sounds like a classic case of uneven patches of friction material being transferred from the brake pads on the surface of the rotor. These patches cause variation in thickness (run-out) and vibration under braking.

OEM pads and rotors? Either way, you are probably in for a new set of rotors (I personally don't like to turn them).

Since they were just replaced, check with the repair facility, might be a warranty item?

yea the shop did the front ones in may of last year so if the front ones are bad already they would be under warranty. but if its the rear ones then i will have to bite the bullet and pay up again to get those done. I am going back to the shop on monday and have them look at both the front and rear ones to see what the deal is.

You don’t need to go OEM for good brakes, there are plenty of very good aftermarket alternatives. that being said it this sounds like warped rotors.

Front warped rotors, steering wheel will shake. Back warped rotors, you typically feel it in the brake pedal. I have no idea why you feel it through the pedal, but that’s been my experience and what’s been told to me by mechanics.

I am likely one of the few, but I prefer the OEM semi-metallic pads vs Akebono or Advic ceramics. I realize there are others, but those seem to be recommended often.

well it sounds very well like it could be the front ones that are bad.

Really best to upgrade to gen3 front brakes......two piston calipers, almost twice the size pads, w/ bigger diameter rotors......Additional cost would be for a pr of reman calipers as you'd be replacing the rotors/pads anyhow.....#19B6275/75 or #19B3352/53 depending on if you use the usa or Japan style calipers....Same as gen2 Highlander's......Yea the calipers add weight as they're cast vs a alloy caliper....From what I can tell(when I compared both side by side) is the outside casting is a little different between the two.....This'll will be my next upgrade...after I get my bathrooms bottom mount sinks & Kohler faucets which I ordered a week ago.....

i will see whats up this morning when i head to the shop to have them inspected. I just hope i/we dont have to shell out for brakes again if its the rear ones that are bad.

Meaning new pads & rotors? For sure you wouldn't want a shop to turn rotors....Shaking thru the steering wheel or suspension?

yes it is shaking through the steering wheel when coming down a steep incline and having to brake. I just came from having them inspected again and both the front and rear brakes are fine and have plenty of material left. manager told me its most likely the road surface that is causing this as he gets 10-20 reports of this per week. So im gonna leave it as being case closed for now.

Shaking on braking because of ROTORS not pads.
Shaking when coming steep down? )))))))))))) Did you know that RX 2nd Gen doesn't have good brakes? Now you know it. It was shaking because you overheated them!!! I have this "problem" every time I travel to Colorado and I had to use "B" gear (engine brake) running downhill.
