Has anyone ever had the door moulding on their RX repainted or refinished? Mine has tons of scratches and door dings and I have been getting quotes from $240-600 to remove repaint and reinstall.
In my case Lexus replaced my RX330 Door handles, Side Door trim, Driver and Passenger sides (as discussed here), Rear Trim above the Plate Number (2x) and Side Mirror covers. This was no charge fortunately because I bought the Lexus Extended Warranty ($2,100). In my case it was a good investment.
Indeed. My RX was the 1st production off the Toyota Line in Canada, prior RX were only Japan built.. So you can imagine the many minor things that did not go as planned. There were a ton of quality claims. However that is why Toyota is the number 1 in reliability and customer satisfaction. They own up to it. However there are not so good and stingy dealers (not all Lexus dealers are equal). Fortunately in my neck of the woods, i have been lucky.
I repainted my side moldings about 6 months ago. I left them on the vehicle and just masked them. Prior to that I sanded them with 120 grit and 220 grit and cleaned off the sanding residue. Then I masked and sprayed on a flexible primer where necessary. FinallyI sprayed on 3 coats of color followed by 2 coats of clear coat. The end result was that the moldings looked like new again. Unfortunately I've got a couple of new dings already. Bob
I didn't take any before photos or even of the actual painting process. Just forgot. But attached are a few photos of the end results on the passenger side.
As far as the paint is concerned, I went to a local paint shop that specializes in making automotive paint in spray cans. They took my paint code, asked me how much I wanted, and 15 minutes later I walked out with the paint. I just used an off the shelf clear coat that had a high rating in the reviews I looked at.
