Constant A/C flow to windshield after evaporator replacement
Hi Guys,
I need some assistance from the A/C experts. My evaporator developed a leak and was loosing refrigerant, it was diagnosed at the dealer when my dashboard was replaced but they wanted $1800 to replace the evaporator.
I found a local independent place with amazing reviews and they quoted $950 to do it so i decided to do it there. They replaced the evaporator and now i have a cold AC, but there is constant airflow in any A/C mode going to the dashboard vents, and being in south Florida this makes the outside of the windshield fog if I select any temperature below 77 in the climate control. I went by the shop and the guys said that sometimes the dampener seals inside the evaporator housing go bad and allow airflow to pass thru, or that the mode servo is not properly seated, but that he doubt it would be the servo because all modes operate and switch properly, but regardless of the mode there is always constant airflow to the windshield. If i select the defrost then there is a lot of air going to the windshield.
I asked if maybe they did not put something right inside the evaporator housing, and the guy said they don't touch anything in there to replace the evaporator, and that while replacing the evaporator they open a different side of the housing than the one where the dampener flaps are.
I'm wondering if someone here has disassembled that A/C system and can confirm that the flap that allows air to go to the windshield vent can or cannot be damaged by, locked, blocked, etc while installing an evaporator core so that I have some knowledge when i bring it back to them. I used a pinhole camera from every vent to see if i could see anything in there but could not get to where the dampener flaps are.
In any case they told me to drop the car off after the 4th of july break and they will take a look to see if they figure out what is going on, hopefully they won't have to take the whole thing apart again.
