Default P0705 Transmission Range Censor

My roomate/fiance has a 2004 RX330. When you take it out of park into either reverse or drive the engine kills. The code that it is throwing is P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction (PRNDL Input). If I give it some gas I can get it into drive but I do not like doing that, but then it shifts fine when its in drive. Couple questions:

Has anybody replaced this sensor themselves? How did it go?

Ive read some horor stories that the trany may need to be replaced. Has anybody experienced this? I am praying its just the sensor since it shifts fine once getting it into drive.

Thank you for your help. Troy

Also, I noticed last night that I could not use the window switches from the driver controls for all other windows. When I used the button on the specific door it would work but not from the drivers door. (the window lock was not on haha) Then this morning I went to start the car and it would not turn over. I am wondering if this is all related? I checked all the fuses and the battery is gettingn 12+ volts.

The Lexus Service Manual indicates the problem is in the following:

Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input). Open or short in the Park/Neutral Position Switch or the ECM.

The diagram is for a U151E Transmission, doubtful that the 2010 Lexus GX460 has the same transmission...
although maybe it will give you a starting point to where to look.

05RX has the right idea, but here's how to take that further; the neutral safety switch is hooked to your ecu by wires. Look on the diagram given by 05RX on top of the Park Neutral Safety Switch in the diagram there is a large wire connector. It will be one of the few and largest wire connectors on your trans, it's multi pinned. Obviously your trans will be different, but it will have the switch and wire connector. So look for wires leading to and connecting it to your transmission. Search and post on GX forum too, maybe someone there has ran into your problem before.
