Default Rear Power Door Struts

Hello all.... I just bought an '07 RX350 w/ 118k miles on it last week. It's pretty clean. I love it so far.....

I read in another thread that if the power rear door hits the top of it's stride and automatically starts to close again, then the struts need to be replaced.

The door has been working fine all week with somewhat warmer temps. We had a little cool spell here in Dallas this morning... right around freezing. I had an early gig, opened the rear door and it started to close automatically.

Are those struts affected by cold, or is this just a sign I need to replace them?

If they need replacing, what are the most cost effective options?

Thanks......

Hey, probably need replaced. I just replaced mine last week and it's good as new now. I got mine off eBay for about $55 for the pair from a great shop in Cali. Definitely recommend them.

Get these: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/231078183854

Will need someone to hold the heavy door up when you remove them, unless you want to prop or tie it open. There are clips that slide open for you to attach the ball joints on the car. Real easy.

Hopefully when it gets even cooler here this winter in NJ I will not have even more frequent problems. I may have missed this but does anyone know who is the OEM supplier of these for Lexus?
Today, with NJ temps in my garage at around 45F, my 9-month old Strongarm struts failed to open the rear hatch. I've sent their US rep an email with proof of sale since the warranty is 12 months, so let's see how they respond . Will keep you informed.

Above is my post of a few weeks ago. Strongarm had gotten good reviews but my experience has been poor. Further, it has been more than 2 weeks since I emailed them (twice) about replacing them under warranty and they have not responded. I did ask on the Forum elsewhere if anyone knew who made the OEM struts for Lexus, but no one has responded to that.

Much appreciated. Looks like I'll go buy me some new struts.

These are original OEM rear struts. If you can read Japanese, you can probably figure it out. The hood struts on my LS430 say Tokico.

Good thought. I tried finding rear strut supports under Tokino but all I could find for them was suspension type struts.

Yep purchased mine a week ago because I had a couple of false closes. Hasn't happened yet and appears to have a bit more life. Will replace when that changes. Got mine off of amazon for a few bucks. Has anyone replaced? Wondering if I need to replace the assembly whole with the bracket or if I can just slip the ball off and replace. From the looks of it, seems like its a plug and play, whole assembly out and new aftermarket in. $30 for the pair off amazon, just make sure to get the one for automatic function
