Default I suggest EVERYONE do this...

The past couple weeks I could hear something rolling around in the floor board and I finally figured out what it was. One of my rear seat passengers tracked in a rock and it went into the rear floor vent. To get the rock out, I had to remove the driver's seat, remove the center console, and then cut into the side of the air duct. Took me a few hours but I got it!

So what EVERYONE should do to avoid this....Go to the dollar store, buy a couple black nylon stockings and slip it over the vents under both of the front seats. The stockings will still let air blow out but won't let rocks or crayons or anything else roll into the vent.

Good call! Just having small kids is enough reason to do this.

I better do it tonight or I may end up with goldfish or cheerios in there

Great idea. Next thing to figure out is how to protect the vents on the rear part of the console. A former neighbor and RX owner had his son upchuck into it. What a mess.

Jake,
How did you remove the center console? I need to wash the one in my wife's RX after a slushy explosion.

Slide the console fully back and slide the seats fully forward. There are panels on each side of the console, pop those off and underneath there are 3 bolts on each side. Remove the bolts. You will also see a cable, disengage the cable from the clip. The console will lift straight up.

RunninRoach....it might work if you tape up all the vents except the one it is in and then turn the fan on high. The crayon might blow to a position where you can pull it out with a clothes hanger. You could even wrap the hanger with tape to make it sticky and snag the crayon.
