I have the same problem, took it apart found no solutions (I'm rather crafty usualy fixing stuff like this). At this point I just decided it is something not needed and a place where I'd forget I left my sunglasses. Very poor design

mine works if you pull it down but the issue I recently found was having the vehicle in airport parking outside for a few days…. The heat expands the plastic and it doesn’t stick until it gets colder again and shrinks. I thought the issue was spring related and getting a new one fixed it.

Fixed it!

replace the spring with a pen one.

replace the spring with one from a tractable pen and it works again
