Exclamation Ashtray Not Opening

The ashtray is not opening in my RX300. Do any of you know how to fix this? I can force it open, but when I close it, it doesn't open back up.

Perhaps if there is a diagram of how to take it apart or something that would greatly help.

Maybe the hinge has debris in it. Open it and really clean it. Did someone stick a chewing gum in there?

Ask the parts counter to fax you a copy of the assembly.

Typically it is spilled soda that jams up the mechanism. You have to take it apart use warm water and mild soap. Dry thoroughly, use vasaline as a lubricant (sparingly as it attracts junk). If you prefer, you can buy silicone grease.

If you can, please take photos and post a DIY

Dealer won't fax it over a diagram, just a parts list. They are saying that it is part of the entire center console assembly.

Can anyone share their diagram or instructions on how this would be completed?

I think that is what you need. The center console assembly.

You may have to go there to look at the page(s) and get a print out.

If it were me I would put some towels around the console and take some simpe green solution and spray the ash tray area, that might loosen up the gunk and then take cotton swabs, paper towels ect, to finish cleaning it up and dry it out.

To be honest though, it sounds like there is a piece of something stuck there, as there is a faint clicking when moving back and forth when open. I would like to open it up and see if there is anything stuck in it.

On the inside of the top drawer there are two screws directly under the ashtray, what are they for?

It must be some stuck hinges in back. I took a look at the manual but saw nothing substantive at all to help.

I agree, but there is nothing written anywhere on how to take it apart. There is something about the hinges, whether is broke or something,.

Ok here is how you take apart your center console and get to your ash tray. Hope this helps someone. I could not find it in my manual so I did everything my self for you. If you need any clarifying please let me know. Thanks Yosh
After rmoving the top piece center cup holder which just pops off do the rest of these steps.
STEP1: Remove all bolts/screws in red circle.

STEP5: After doing step 4 you will lift up the console a little bit and will see this connector, unplug it as well. Then you should be able to lift the entire console off.
