Default How to open/close RX 330 moonroof?

I drive a 2004 RX 300 and think there might be some wires crossed with my moonroof buttons. There are two buttons - one that looks like it was designed to slide the glass back and forth (I'll call it the "slider" button), and the other to tilt it up and down (the "tilter" button). However, when I press either button, they both do the exact same thing.

In other words, if the glass is closed and I hold down the slider to open it, it will open it. Great. But when I hold down the slider to close it, the glass closes, but then keeps continuing into the tilt open position. Therefore, the problem is that on one end the glass may still be slid open if I don't hold the button down long enough, and on the other end it may be tilted open if I hold it down too long. Basically, I have to approximate when the glass is fully closed.

Same story applies for the tilter button. That button both slides and tilts the glass (it performs the exact same functions as the slider button) and I have to guess whether the glass is really closed.

Am I missing something here? Are the buttons supposed to do two separate things? Is there one-touch functionality that will automatically return the moonroof to the fully closed position?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found your way here. This forum is full of helpfull tips and suggestions. Enjoy!

Try this. Hold either button depressed until the roof slides open and closed and then tilts up and closed. Then release the button. This should reset the roof electronics.

Once reset you only need to touch one of the buttons momentarily to have the roof function.

Visually check from the outside that the back edge of the sunroof is flush with the roof.

Unfortunately it is true, it is by feel, when you see the roof id flush you end pushing the button. And if you do not hear wind noise when driving, the roof is seated properly. with practice you can master this. Good luck

thats hilarious. You'd think there would be an indicator light that its not closed or something. I feel like my 2007 4runner had a way to indicate the sunroof was closed. Anyway, thanks everyone for the input.

wrong - read the manual, do a proper reset, it will close completely by itself no guesswork whether that is up/down or front/back with one touch of the button
