All I know is change needed fluids, top up the rest and replace needed filters.

If there is some thing else, let me know.

Tuning? Used to mean to replace the cap, rotor, plugs and adjust the timing. Today, no cap, no rotor and no real way to adjust the timing. So, would guess they mean to replace the plugs and filters. However, depends on your situation and how the term was used in the conversation.

In short, a generic term used by repair shops to let you know that they want to charge you for possibly unneeded services.

depends on your mileage. Typically, its air filter, oil change, new plugs/wires [again, mileage dependant], some go as far as cabin filter, fuel filter [mileage dependant], trans fluid change, etc.

Its all subjective as to what your mileage is. Typically, the spark plugs & wires should be change every 90-100k given their Iridium, Trans fluid every 30k, fuel filter - higher miles & $$, but oil change/air filter/cabin filter/general inspection of ball joints, and some places now do the MAF cleaning as part of a package.

+1, thomas1 said, but he forgot tweaking and calibrating carbs, spark timing, valve tappets, adjust brakes, prime shocks, and re-true wire wheels, and just tightening everything that started to work loose.
Sounds like a lot but they were fun to work on. One could do most of this on his own and some was done constantly instead of mile intervals.
