Does anyone where I can purchase front sub woofers for our Rx's? They are the one's that are on the driver and passenger side, attached to the door panel.


Also does anyone know what part this is? It is where the tail light bulb goes into, it looks like it might need to replace it.

I found out that they are front speakers and the cost will be 170 dollars for each individual one.

 

You might do better at a radio store at those prices! You could no doubt get some hard core noise for that!

 

It seems having the Mark Levinson System, there is only one speaker that is compatible for it. I wanted the oem quality sound.

Typical failure mode is for the speaker to tear along the outer circumference.

You probably can get it repaired for $30-50. Some guys have repaired it with RTV:

I replaced mine with a 6" speaker from Parts Express. It cost me about $35 and seemed to be of much higher quality than the ML speaker I replaced.

Speakers have different efficiency ratings. Some will play loud with little power and some require a lot of power to be heard. If you wind up with the wrong efficiency rating it may make the whole system sound awful. The same holds true for the frequency response.

You probably want a full range driver handling something close to 40-16,000 Hz, sensitivity of 85 to 90 dB. I believe Crutchfield has some options and mounting kits that should yield improved sound over the oem. They have an infobase that should have data to help your choice.

You could also look to a local auto audio shop for this.

 

The local shop is charging about the same price to install Alpine speakers as it would cost me to just purchase brand new oem ones.

I am trying find a more cost effective route if possible.

Here's the woofer I bought. Unfortunately parts express does not stock it anymore. I paid $62.00 for it. I cut an adapter out of MDF to make it fit in the 6x9 enclosure.

There are other sellers for the Vifa speaker. Looks like it is around $100 now.

There may be other options out there, you need a 8 ohm woofer that is no deeper than about 3 inches to clear the window mechanism.

I bought the Vifa based on a recommendation in the CL Electronics forum, you might want to check there for other options.

Looks like they don't make that speaker anymore the closest one costs around $120, for that price I might as well spend another $30 dollars and get an all original Mark Levinson one.

Not necessarily. I'd only be concerned that these speakers are usually matched and replacing just one of a matched set might not deliver the best sound quality, especially if it is a different brand or model.

Much depends on how picky you are about the audio quality. In a moving vehicle the sound quality may not be all that significant anyway.

As to the failure, it could be due to several things; Water damage, electrical malfunction, loose solder joint, torn cone, manufacturer defect, etc. I'd not really expect the same damage to occur to the other speaker.
