Do any aftermarket speakers fit in the doors without spacers? My fabrication skills are lacking.

Do they not fit because the holes are a different pattern, or is it because of the size?

^^+1 on if any aftermarket speakers will fit without modification. I have an 05 RX non ML system and I want to upgrade the speakers before the head unit just to see if its an improvement. Just not clear and full enough for me stock. Stock head unit amp probably wont be strong enough to push a high end 6x9 replacement so Ill eventually have to upgrade the HU.

They arrived the other day so I thought I'll post some pictures of them first.

As you can see they are put together by smaller parts and held with screws which means that they act as if they are ventilated. Thats not really the best from an audio point of view.
They will need to be sealed before mounted and used.
They feel ok rigid wise but not as if they was moulded in a singled part.

Just letting everyone know I ordered and installed some of those brackets petterf was talking about, and they fit perfectly. I have a 2004 rx330 so I think they must work with every year.

Probably not

both, just depends on the size you end up using.

So you bolt one ring to the other?

Default low budget $6 solution

if you're on low budget, this will work well: Use silicon adhesive to seal the blown ML speakers. i did thi son my '04 rx330 speakers (see attached pictures). i now have great sound again and cant tell if the original speakers sounded better. may be because i've saved $500!

this idea came from someone else on sc 430 forum. i did it on my 02 sc430 and after 2 years the speakers still hold.

Someone on the internet tried to say my ML speakers were round but I could see with a flashlight that they were oval (6x9).
I have a 2004 RX330 with yhe ML system and navigation.
What makes the ML speakers so expensive? What ohm rating are they? What problems will I run into if I let a local sound shop replace them with non-ML?

rLexusj: Look for my posts, i think i have found lots of info on this. The ML are 8 ohm 6x9 and it is almost (yes almost) impossible to find such CAR speakers but you can get home speakers at this ohm rating and close to size....however, people have said that just glueing the speakers works great and should be first step....

i will take mine to the car audio guy to try to get him to help me with it...i'm in hong kong so i'm waiting to find one that speaks enough english for me to get this done.

Do any of you guys know what size speakers are installed up in the dash? I looked at the above links, which by the way are SUPER HELPFUL. However, I couldn't tell the speaker size. In my case, I have the '08 rx400h, but these speakers appear to be the same across these 3 models.

note: I am referring to the speakers labeled as "1" in the diagram.

The speakers labeled as "1" are tweeters.

For ML stereo they are 2 cm, 8 ohm speakers.

For Pioneer they are 3.5 cm, 4 ohm speakers.

This is from the 2004 RX330 Lexus New Car Features Manual, YMMV.

Default Lexus Door Panel Removal

I am going to try the "caulking fix" on my 2004 RX330 ML front door speakers.
However, I have looked at a couple of details for removing the interior door panels and they seem to be for doors other than mine, i.e., the areas behind my door handles don't appear to have removable pieces of plastic, nor can I locate any screws along the bottom of the panel.
What should I be looking for to remove the front door panels in my 2004 RX?

Here's some instructions:

https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=...CMDIxccM&pli=1

When I replaced my speakers, I removed the screws and popped the panel off far enough to allow access to the speakers. No need to remove the whole panel.

Aloha, Joe
