2008 RX w/ 100K miles, worth purchasing?
I have a dealer selling a 2008 RX with 100K miles. Its very clean inside and out and I'm considering purchasing it. Trying to get a feel for what lifespan (mileage wise) I can expect out of it. Are/were those of you who have the 07/08 models been able to reach over 200K without major headaches? The dealer won't certify an RX with this many miles but I'm wondering if there is a Lexus warranty I can purchase that would cover it for at least 2 years. Thanks for the help.

Lexus warranty has to be purchased while the factory warranty is still in effect.
How much is the car listed for? How many owners? Does it have service records?
Personally, I would pass.

It's listed for 15K, no info on previous owners and only partial service records. No deal then? Are there no options for a warranty at all that would cover the engine/transmission?

Without complete information on service history and with that number of miles I would pass. Plenty out there to choose from. Yes, you will pay more, however, you will be better off in the long run.

Thanks everyone. I'll dig a bit deeper into the history and possibly have look at it looked by an independent mechanic. Thanks for the tip on checking the VIN on lexus.com, didn't know you could do this.

I would guess that an 08 with this many miles would also have to be highway miles which in my opinion are the easiest miles on an engine. I would have it checked out by a mechanic, it could be a great find. If you decide to purchase I would make sure that the dealer has done the 100K complete service including the transmission. I wonder how long the dealer has had this RX on the lot? Most dealers dump high mileage cars to brokers unless they got it for next to nothing and are making a killing on it. Do a little more reasearch and good luck.
