So I'm helping my best friend finding an 04 RX330. I noticed that the sunroof is not a one touch automatic one (like the one they have in GS). I have to hold my finger at the sunroof button until it's fully open. I check out on one RX330 which has 110k miles on it and assumed that the sunroof didn't work properly. But I checked out another one with 52k miles at a dealership and it didn't operate fully automatic either.
So my question is, is it just RX330's sunroof that work like an old Mercedes or both of them doesn't work properly? Because I also have an 02 RX300 and its sunroof works fully automatic.
my sunroof is one touch! It probably needs to be re-programed. Does it beep if the sun roof is open, and the key`s are out of the ignition, and you open the door you should hear a beep to let you know it`s open.
Actually mine does the same thing. I have to hold the button down to open or close the sunroof. My car beeps when the sunroof is open, keys removed and door open. It also gives me a quick beep when I open the door to remind me that the sunroof is open. Mine also functions with holding the "unlock" key down and all the windows and sunroof open.
No one touch open/close on the sunroof might indicate the battery is close to dying. Does one touch up/down work on the windows? If not, it's time to change the battery. Then the sunroof and windows can be reprogrammed to work properly.

well, is yours an 04 or 05? I have just checked out an 05 RX330 and the sunroof was actually one touch automatic one..

I didn't really pay attention whether it beeps when the key removed and sunroof opened. but what concerns me was the fact that it doesn't automatically open in one single touch. But I will give it another check.

all four windows works perfectly. only the sunroof that questionable. how much it costs to reprogram the sunroof at dealership?

i guess the tap is another feature if you just want to crack it
You can reprogram it easily. Press and hold the tilt button until the roof tilts up, tilts closed, slides open and slides closed. Then release the button and it will be set.
The instructions for resetting the auto windows, power hatch and sunroof are in the owner's manual. No need to involve the dealer. If the battery is disconnected to run down, these things need to be reset.
all second generation Rx have one touch open. If your Rx is not doing that then reset it by opening it half way and then close it by holding the switch till it closes and wait 2 seconds. then reopen and close fully. now your one touch should work. if it does not then sunroof control sensor (don't know what its called) is bad and needs to be replace.
From the 2004 RX330 Owners Manual as I posted earlier.
Section 1-5 Instruments and Controls, Page 148
To normalize the moon roof, push and hold the slide control switch toward the front or “TILT” switch on the rear side. The moonroof will tilt up and down, then slide open and close. After the slide close operation, release the switch.
I've done this a few of times prior to replacing the battery so I know it works.
As a side note, when initialized the roof opens only part way, leaving about an inch or two unopened. This eliminates a thumping or helicopter type sound caused by air pressure reverberation when the roof is manually fully opened.
