Hmm...funny you should ask, I was just reading about this in my service manual two days ago and printed a hard copy, but I'm at work and the info is at home. I'll post when I get home (after midnight, though). IIRC, however, it's supposed to reset itself just by you driving. How do you know it needs to be reset?
Same thing happened to me after changing my battery 2 weeks ago. Usually when you turn the lights on it does the up/down - left/right swivel thing and now it doesn't. Though it seems to work when the car is turning - seems like the light moves....let me knwo if you find anything out!
According the the shop manual the AFS ECU initialization is automatic after reconnecting the battery as long as you "Run the vehicle on the place where few curve or traffic congestion exist at least 100m at the speed between 20km/h and 80 km/h"
However, you can do it manually by the following:
1. Engine is running and shift range is in the P position
2. Press the AFS OFF switch eight times at approximately one second interval (once for ON and once more for OFF, i.e 4 times ON and 4 times OFF
-the AFS OFF indicator light starts to blink twice per second
-Initialization can be started when the AFS OFF switch is either in the ON or OFF position
3. Turn the steering wheel to adjust the tires so that the point straight ahead
4. Do not change the steering wheel position. Press the AFS OFF switch twice) once ON and once OFF
-the AFS indicator light stays lit for two seconds
5. Do not change the steering wheel position and pess the AFS OFF switch twice within 3 to 10 seconds
-the AFS indicator light stays lit for two seconds
6. Do not change the steering wheel position and press the AFS OFF switch twice again within 3 to 10 seconds.
Too confusing I think, just disconnect and reconnect the battery and let the automatic mode do it.
