RX 330 Spy Pic
BTW, if that *IS* the new GS330, sorry, I'm going with the X5. There's something boxy about that car pic IMO.
Are the lights actually gonna be square (in the back)... I mean, if so, that'll be the most un-lexus like recent car rear light because all the lexus lineups have these weird rear lights (I've got an RX and a GS) and I would be dissappointed if they went back to square rears again...

I wonder where you got that picture but it took me a good 3-4 minutes to realize that yes...THAT'S THE ONE!!! I almost did not recognize it.
They did a pretty good job taping the glass, body panels, and taillights that it looked totally different and so ugly now. I guess the purpose of taping was to disguise the new model and I think they've succeeded BIGTIME! I really had to figure out the "object" in the picture as compared to what I saw in actual before conceding to myself that this is the same one that I saw.
My comments:
The rear C Pillar was taped so wide - I think 3 times the width of the actual pillar- that it gave the vehicle a yucky look. If you remember in my drawing, the pillar is almost by the rear hatch (as opposed to the present RX300 where the pillar is closer to the rear door). They basically taped the rear pillar from the hatch to the rear door covering the entire rear side window to hide its new pillar design. It is the new pillar design which is actually giving the new RX its updated design character (so the Buick Rendezvous update in the future will not copy it so fast). You cannot see how the new pillar sloped from the roof line with this picture. It's gorgeous...ala Georgio Armani designed suit (no Aztec lines here).
The wheels are the new standard aluminum alloys. No disguise there.
The spoiler is also not disguised.
The rear hatch glass is not disguised. Notice how it met the spoiler....I'm looking in that general area. That's exactly how it looks like. Yes, it's kinda X5'ish but the Lexus was executed in sleeker fashion (it'll make the X5 look like a shoebox).
If you look at the shape - from the top of the hood in front , the windshield...then the roofline and towards the rear hatch glass, the sloping shape is not disguised (well they can't anyway as body stamping plant is all setup now). The ski rack holders are not altered.
The tailights are disguised. The real tailights are covered in tapes. They probably just stuck some lights in the back, taped it, so they can drive it on the highway. Notice that the disguise lights are located in an awkward position. Back when I saw the actual one, the taillights were all clear but it gave me the impression that they are not finished with the final design as I saw patched plastics, etc.
Body panels and side windows are clad with so much tapes that it muddled the RX's basic lines and shape. The only shape I can recognize is what I mentioned above...the line/angles forming the hood, roof, and rear hatch.

We just got our RX300 AWD Nav about 1 1/2 mo ago...and I just wish I got to drive it more. I keep seeing posts about RX vs MDX...and to me there is so little similarity between these vehicles, it's like comparing apples and oranges. I've been lurking for a while and decided to register for funzies.

The rear hatch appears to have been overpainted with black that overlapped to the rear pillar. It sort of stole the real figure of the new body. But if you can visualize the body in monopaint- you will see how good looking it is.
Huh...my wife is already looking forward to getting the RX330.
