Getting GPS ECU Lens Replaced
Hi all,
I've got this error message on my 2006 RX screen. One friend advised me to use a disk cleaner kit and this doesn’t solve the problem. Alsom I've tried to use pressured air on the drive to remove the dust that might be on the DVD read lenses. All of that was waste of time!
The dealer quoted me with over $3000 to replace this unit by a brand new one!
My question is: Is there a replacement DVD-Rom or lens assembly/unit that is compatible or fit in my ECU that I could find in the market? (PS2 Laser unit or DVD-ROM laser unit ...)
I guess that the laser lens unit is not any different than a normal PC - DVD-Drive unit that is modified to fit in GPS ECU.

I had this problem when I was playing with an override system. I just removed the connector from the back of the DVD drive in the trunk. And connected it again.
On the replacment. You might try a junk yard. Or maybe on eBay. Ive seen some newer RX models being parted out. If you dont see the part itself. Ask the seller if he has one. Maybe he hasnt listed it yet.

Thanks, the problem that most of 2nd hand items are half life. They might work for few weeks or months than they start giving error.
I emailed Denso just a while ago asking them to give me the technical diagram of the GPS ECU if possible.

This is an update I found in one "Arabic" forum "non-Engish" here:
The person found that one electronics shop is replacing the ECU Laser Assembly unit by a new one and charged him around USD160
