The other thread that is present about the locked ignition reminded me of something, but instead of hijacking the other thread I thought I would start my own.
For the past week, I stick the key in the ignition and the steering wheel tilts out, but I am having a hard time turning the key. It is completely locked, but the steering wheel feels normal and is not locked. Usually I have to kind of push in while turning or wiggle it side to side, or take it out again and reinsert it, but finally it turns.
A couple of things worry me.
1) It is going to leave me stranded one of these days
2) I will have to replace the ignition and keys and its gonna cost me a fortune
The problem definately doesnt have to do with the keys though because I recently got new ones since the black plastic on the originals broke. The new ones were ordered from Lexus and also cut by them too.
What do you guys think? Im looking to trade in this car soon for the new RX, so if you think the fix is the 2nd option, then I might just have to risk it for the next month.
Bummer, get the new RX. Plastic part broke on one of my keys. Dealer replaced no charge. I know they aren't cheap to replace and have cut. Curious, did the problem with the ignition start before or after you replaced the keys?
after I replaced the keys, but not immediately. I will have to try it with one of my originals...
Yep, was thinking the same thing. If it does NOT reproduce with the original then it must be the new key - may have cut it wrong. If it however, also reproduce with the original then it may relate the the mechanical of the ignition switch - Hope it's not this one. Update us once you find the culprit.
haha definately, just waiting for the numbers in the bank to increase a bit more before pulling the trigger. that and december to remember is right around the corner
