I just got a card from Lexus that a new GPS version 9.1 update is now available for $199 to replace the old version in my 2008 RX350 which I assume it's a Gen 5 ver 8.1. Has anyone got the new version installed? If so, any noticeable difference? By the way, are there any Lexus dealers that offer discounts to this update DVD? Thanks.
Sewell offers one and has a rebate on return of the old disk. I believe our discount codes will still work "CL911M" or "CLUBLEXUS".
See post #11 for what's different in the thread linked above
Dave, thanks for the link and the discount code. Yes, it still works. All I need to figure out now is to find the location of the current DVD since the owner's manual doesn't spell out where.
We have the 9.1 installed in our RX. We jumped from v 7 to 9. How much difference you will notice really depends on the amount of new development in the areas in which you use the system. And depending on timing, it takes new addresses and POIs a year or sometimes two to show up. I've never found updating every year to be worth it, usually every 2 to 3 for us but purely personal choice.
In your 08, the nav reader is under the tool tray beneath the carpet of the cargo area. Move the carpet, pull out the floor board to get to the tool tray. Pry out the little plastic pins and remove the tray and the navi reader is right out in the open underneath the tray. I belive there is an eject button or slide switch to eject the old dvd. You just feed the new one in same as you would any other disc reader.
