Question removing dried paint flakes...

My wife somehow got white paint flakes all over the car...I mean the whole front, back of mirrors, wheel well/over the 3m guard...etc....what's the best way to remove that w/out damaging the paint/clear coat...the flakes easily come off with my nails..but I can't do that for the whole car.....

suggestions?...dealer said, they have to do exterior detailing, for about $99...is that the only option?

dont believe the dealer, they probably got the detail products for 25 bucks, trying to make mad money off you.

go to wal-mart auto detail section and get yourself the MOTHERS CLAY BAR.
I think it comes in a package of cleaner wax, wax, detail spray and the clay bar for about 15 bucks. follow the instructions, its a really simple process. when you are done the paint should feel smooth like it was freshly sprayed.

While you are there in Wally World buy some Turtle Wax tar and bug remover (kerosene). Try this on a few flakes and see if that does not do the trick. Then use the clay bar and follow that up with a good wax job. I like Mequires but use either a paste or liquid premium wax to restore the luster.

Here is the order from mild to strong:

1. Soap and water [not the dishwasher kind unless you plan to wax afterwards]

2. clay bar [once in 6months]

3. Bug and tar remover (preferably spot treatment)

4. 3M fine cut compound polisher. Use a soft hand.

Clay bar with soapy water.....
Bug remover sponge with soapy water or tar/bug remover.....
Get your vehicle ""polished"" and sealed when finished.

$99 seems like a fair price. I figure you can do it your self, but just the supplies alone is like $20 to $30. So do you want to spend a whole day getting the paints off or do you pay someone $70 for the work.

The price is fair but what are they going to use to get the paint off?
Bring it over to me for $150.00 I will make it look better than the day you bought it and it will be all ready for summer if it ever gets here.

just take it to a drive through car wash or use a power washer to clean up those paint flakes and use clay bar + wax to finish
