VSC Light and Check Engine Light
I'm new to the forum. This must be a real issue for Lexus. I had a 2006 RX350 and it did the same thing. The dealer changed the coils, spark igniters, fuel injectors and several other things I can't remember back in 2008. The car was in the shop on 7 different occaisions. Sometimes for two weeks at a time. The servicemen were confused as they got a different code each time. They finally changed the computer out with a computer on a new car and put mine on the new car and the problem moved. So I think that fixed it then. I'm not sure after that my warranty was about to be out and the dealer would only guarantee that fix until the warranty ran out so I traded it off the next day.
Well I decided to give Lexus another try and got a 2010 RX (Red) have had it 7 weeks. Has 1800 miles and the lights came on this morning with a rough idle as well. Lexus has it in the shop now.
I'm only giving them a couple tries to fix it or they can have it back.

Thanks, maybe this should be in the 2nd gen or 3rd gen forum ???
Hi people
I am a new user on this forum.
I bought a RX-330 - 05 because my wife love it..
It has been running well and days ago I was on the way to home and after driving over cat's eye (reflecting device on road), VCS and check engine came out.
Pre owner asked me if it was raining because it sometimes happened to him during rain, but my answer to him: it was a sunny day.
A friend told me to take the car and connect a scanner, another told me to disconnect the battery because maybe with the unusual movement of the car (driving over the cat's eye) made a failure on a sensor....
I read that another possible solution is to fill out the tank and add fuel injector cleaner, works for that person.
I have not check yet the fuel cap (just found that could be another reason of); maybe not tight enough (just went to a gas station)

I would try a read, then a reset {usually the auto-shops dont do that, but a 15 or 20 min battery disconnect will do it} and then wait for the next CEL and a read before trying to find what needs to be fixed.
Also a quick visual from underneath the RX can reveal a dangling wire etc.

Hi
I took the car to the mechanic and the scanner said code P0420 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank1)
Lights were erased but came back again..
Mechanic recomended just clean but I read it is better to replace all 3 sensors.
My RX 330 has 86K miles.
Any suggestion is welcome.

In my case the engine warning light came on first then the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) about a day later on my 2001 RX300. Took it to my local garage mechanic, and he replaced the Oxygen sensor and the rear fuel sensor. Total for $600. Each part was over $200. VSC light stayed on for 1/2 day and my mechanic thought I might have an ABS brake problem not fully indicated on diagnostic. Told me to drive the car and watch for abs. VSC light went off the next morning and has been free of dreaded warning lights thereafter. Hope my luck holds out.
Hey guys...
I have a 2001 RX 300, and have replaced two Oxygen sensors in the past few years. For the last three months the Check Engine and VSC lights have been going on and off. I can drive a few hundred miles with the lights on, and no problems. Then, for no apparent reason, the lights go off. I made an appointment with Johnson Lexus in Durham, NC for Monday, but the lights are currently off. Should I bother bringing it in? Does anyone know a good /honest mechanic in the Research Triangle area. I have tried the Auto Zone thing, rather AAA, and they said I needed a tune up. Lexus said they never heard of replacing spark plugs.
Thanks for any suggestions. The car rides just fine...just drove 365 miles on 17 gallons.

Search my post on P420 code. You will see exactly what may be causing the issue. Check and see if the fuel trims are running out of whack. Anything above 4 or 5 is out of balance. You have to have a scanner to check those.
The 420 code is a lean code which means the engine cannot add enough fuel to the oxygen coming in the intake to balance the correct ratio. This is caused by vacuum leaks usually. Along with faulty O2's and the occasional cat converter going out.
Again search for my post on this code and issue.

The even numbers are up front IIRC, so if you need to replace the coil it should be very straight forward. As for a source, consider going to a Toyota shop and getting one for the same vintage and engine Highlander.
Thank you, RX330inFL!
Ordered an ignition coil from ebay, got more P0354 while waiting for the part. Replaced the coil in three minutes yesterday, drove ten miles, so far so good.
If I didn't update this thread, it means it is fixed or I am in jail.
