I've seen this 2.5 inch thick subwoofer from JVC which I am planning on putting under the front passenger seat of my 3 month-old Rx350. Has anyone done this and have any suggestions and tips on installation? I love true hi-fi but am quite dissapointed at the sound quality of this RX350.
Also does the Rx350 (with Premium package with nav but no Rear DVD or ML) have an amplifier or is it an amp that is built into the Head Unit?
Also what are the colors of wires that go to each speaker? I am not able to find it anywyere yet.
The stock amp is located between the rear seat and rear hatch floor Right behind the right rear seat is a hallow area. If you move the rear seat all the way forward, remove the hatch floor cover and pull back the interior carpet you will see the amp.If is just a mater of a few push in tab clips and 2 10 mm bolts to remove. Anyway, from there, you can located the rear speaker outputs from the amp, then install a LOC (Line output Converter) on the rear outputs. No need to cut, just tap into it so you still get sound from the rear speakers. The LOC then takes that high wattage/voltage input, and converts it to a lower voltage preamp signal in which and after market amp can handle. Install the amp to power your subs, and hood up your subs.
My friends audio shop just installed one in an RX330 this way as the owner wanted everything else stock, but just wanted a sub.
thanks ckspeed you just solved a couple of issues for me. now wheres a good place to mount an aftermarket amp that can be hidden and have enough space for cooling? plus two capacitors.
I see it! There is a rectangular heat sink block, probably with the amplfier underneath, behind the rear right seat. Unfortunately, in tne 2007 there is a black sheet metal plate, maybe 10" by the width of the car, covering the amp, and you can only see the amp thru a couple of holes. I could not see any obvious way to remove that big metal cover.
There is all sorts of carpet there, and I did not want to go ripping it all up until someone told me how to get at the actual amp module. Can you remove the plastic tray that the tire jack is in and access it from the side?
Unless you go with a massive bat-cap, they do nothing but put more strain on your electrical system. Check out a few of the dedicated car audio forums and read up on them. Most recommend a big 3 upgrade.
I think that all depends on what you are looking for. If you are just playing some MP3s at a comfortable listening level, but can hear the missing bass response, then a sub woofer in back, maybe run off of the cigarette lighter plug in the hatch wall, would be excellent.
Obviously, you are not going to be blasting hip-hop CD's at full volume with only a 10A dc supply! But for us old farts, it would be just fine!
i always hear the same thing two things.........on one side that caps are totally useless no matter how big the system or on the other side where they are useful for all systems even if its just 1-3 farads total.

The best way to access that amp without removing that large metal plate covering its access is to move the rear seats all the way forward. From there, you remove the hinged panel that covers the jack and tools compartment. Each hinge has one 10mm bolt. The front part of that panel (Closest to the rear seat) is held down my plastic clips and just needs to be popped out. Once removed, you will see a lot of large diameter black plastic push tabs holding the edge of the carpet down on that large metal plate described above. Remove all of them and you can pull the carpet away exposing the amp and most important the 2 molex connectors at that amp. The larger one on toward the middle of the car has all the speaker output wires where one would tap if they wanted to add an LOC.
Removing the jack and tools compartment will do little since the amp is toward the front and the connectors are facing the front.
Thanks a lot for the info. I am going to try this as soon as I get a free moment.
Is there enough room there next to the stock amp to add a powered sub instead of placing it under the front passenger seat? I guess I will have to see it myself when I follow your instructions. Thanks a bunch for the info!
There is room by the stock amp area to maybe put a small amp (About the size of the stock one) but no way subs. This is just kind of a void area. You can; however, remove the tool tray and build a custom sub enclosure in the floor. You would have to find a new place for the jack and tools though.
yea i figured that much. im trying to figure out where to put the amp in the car where it can be hiddden, but nothing too complex since it all needs to come out when the lease is up. Plus the amp needs adequate room to cool. My amp runs hot since i push my system a lot.
I removed the tool tray and had my amp in that space. I did; however, have most of my other components under the rear seats. My friend's shop mounted an amp under the front drivers seat. You could go front passenger seat as well since I had a PS2 under there.
Is there enough room without removing anything, to add the JVC CS-BB2 powered sub there? I havent had time to dismantle my rx yet, but was wondering if I could place the JVC CS-BB2. It is only 2 and a half inch thick. Dimentions are 11-5/8"W x 2-1/2"H x 7-7/8"D. And if i did place it there, I am also wondering if the sound would be muffed up by the closed place or could I hear it from the driver's seat?
