Flash reprogramming allows the ECU software to be updated without replacing the ECU. Flash calibration updates for specific vehicle models/ECUs are released as field–fix procedures described in individual service bulletins. This bulletin details the Techstream ECU flash reprogramming process and outlines use of the Technical Information System (TIS) and the Calibration Update Wizard (CUW).
Flash calibration updates can only be applied to the vehicle/ECU combination for which they are intended. ECUs have internal security that will not allow them to be programmed with another ECU’s information.
NOTE: Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is a Lexus term used to describe integrated computerized devices responsible for managing the operation of a system or subsystem. For the purposes of this bulletin, the term “ECU” is used as a generic label for the following SAE J1930 standard references:
Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Transmission Control Module (TCM)
Or any other Lexus specific control unit
My guess is this is another attempt at fixing the funky shifting pattern on the RX. The latest version that most of us have is the 05 version which helped a little but still never fixed the problem. Maybe the 07 version will do a better job. I believe the 05 version was supposed to get the previous year RX's to the 07 RX350 trans program. A good way to tell is if this ECU flash is for the 2004-2006 model or includes the 07 as well. Come to think if it, maybe the 05/07 signifies the year of release? I think the 05 reflash TSIB came out in 05, now this 07 comes out in 07, so that means it should bring the transmission program up to current 07 status?
It would be a great news if this a better update for the transmission.
Previous ones are: TC005-03R ECM CALIBRATION: SHIFT FEELING ENHANCEMENT To improve the transmission shift feeling during specific operating modes, the Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) calibration has been revised. These improvements include:
- Reduced downshift lag when accelerating at speeds from 10 to 20 mph.
- Less gear hunting when driving on/off accelerator pedal at 20 to 30 mph (for example: during heavy rush hour traffic).
- Improved response rate during heavy acceleration from a stop. TC002-03 ECM RESET MEMORY FUNCTION Whenever an automatic transmission is replaced, overhauled or individual components are replaced, use this procedure to erase Engine Control Module (ECM, SAE term: Powertrain Control Module, PCM) Learned Values and minimize subsequent performance concerns.

Too bad this info came late. Read my thread on my UPDATE from my dealer appointment today.
