Not sure yet. Dealer still has my car. Was making a clunking noise when turning. said the CV joint was broken. I will find out today and reply. Thanks!
I suggested that a strut may be the cause on a previous post, since the CV is designed to last much longer than 26,000 miles.
Inquire to the dealer, for your information, was the accordion rubber boot covering the CV joint cut or did it appear damaged? Did the boot sealing bands appear intact?
I would assume it is the outer CV joint on the front axle driveshaft, at the spindle. Since you are in Michigan, have you driven in deep snow which may have packed itself into the inside of the front wheel. Then allowing it to melt on the axle over an extended period of time? Was there a situation where the front axles were submerged in deep water for a period of time? Somehow, it appears water has gotten into the boot and washed away the lubricant....Lexus may like consider this as your fault and doing you a favor supporting their warranty.
Or... If not, then it appears the axle assembly was defective due to improper lubrication... born to fail, so to speak. This happens, as people build and seal the axle assemblies.. and why we pay for the warranty when we buy an auto.. You got lucky and got the bad one.
Your clamp came loose causing contaminents to get in there and all the grease to leak out! Once that happens your CV joint goes to He$$! Just a loose clamp from the factory--thats all, minor isolated issue
