2006 Tours, Cambridge Plant
Today, March 9, I had the opportunity to attend a tour at the Cambridge, Ontario Lexus Plant where they are now making the new RX 350. I cannot recommend this tour enough and anyone who gets the opportunity to visit the plant in 2007 (2006 tours are full) should.
The hosted a beautiful meal at Langdon Hall which is a 5 Diamond Dining Room and Resort a short distance from the plant.
We were taken to the plant in a fine Motorcoach (not the Yellow School Bus Type) and shown a video and then provided with a Q&A session.
We were then taken throughout most of the plant and a great deal of time was spent showing the meticulous steps taken to provide a Quality vehicle. It was very impressive and I have toured several auto plants including Ford, Honda, and a couple of large truck firms (Mack) but this tour really did stand out.
The entire day was indicative of the fact that Lexus has pride in what they do and it also clearly demonstrated that they appreciated their customer base which is an odd trait in today's world.
I would hope that every car nut who cares get this opportunity. It was well worth the time invested.

How does one sign up for such a tour??
I would love to visit the factory to see the whole process. And sometime in the future I would also like to visit the Tahara plant in Japan, which I'm told is one of the best in the world!!!

There was an invitation sent out through Lexus Canada's web site to owners asking if they were interested.
Apparently the Tours for all of 2006 filled up almost immediately. This was no regular tour as the participants were given full Lexus treatment before they got to the Plant.
It was an terrific experience and we sure saw the extra effort that is taken to do things right.
Neat seeing each vehicle go on a quick test drive before lining up for shipment.
Every Rx 330 and now 350 goes through a slalom course, over different surfaces and then gets a jackrabbit start and panic stop prior to being lined up for shipping.
