Question Towing

Hello i'm looking to purchase a 04 rx330 and i'm curious on how well it tows. Will it tow 2000lbs (2 pwc's+trailer) with any difficulty? This is my main concern right now we currently have a durango i don't want to loose too much of the pulling powering that we currently have.

Also i was offered a 04 for 41,500 with the following options is this a good deal or could i get it lower?
Nav premium package
tow package
18" wheels with chrome
rain sensing wipers

thanks for the help!

Ken

It can tow up to 3,500 lbs with tow prep. I could be wrong, but I think the Lexus brand hitch on RX330 can only do 2,000 lbs. Nowhere near what Durango can do.

Check www.edmunds.com for fair market value. Remember August is the end of model year, so haggle haggle haggle for the best deal. The dealer wants to clear the 2004 inventory for 2005, so you hold all the cards.

If you do get a 330 with the TO option, you can get a 3500 lb hitch from lexus

You can add a 2000 lb hitch to a 330 without TO, but you need to add a junction block of some sort to make the lights work correctly.

Thanks for the responses. I just want to be sure that its not going to struggling to go up a small hill.

Yea i'm still not 100% sure i want to buy the 04 when the hybrid is just around the corner....the deal sounds pretty good but i think i can get them to knock off another $1000 they seem pretty excited to sell me one.

Thanks,

Ken

We have a 2000 RX300 with the tow package and tow our 20' boat during the summer. It's rated for 3500 lbs. I can't imagine the RX330 would be any worse.

Yes, my 2002 RX300 (with tow pkg) can do 3,500 lbs, too.

Even though the RX330 with tow pkg was designed to do 3,500 lbs as well. I remember reading somewhere that the first Lexus tow hitch for RX330 could only do 2,000 lbs. If you wanted to tow 3,500 lbs back then, you'd have to go aftermarket.

Now Lexus probably have the 3,500 lbs tow hitch available for RX330. I wasn't 100% sure.

Yes, Lexus has a 3500 lb hitch available. As I stated in an earlier thread (and I posted pictures of it on my RX-330), I feel the Lexus hitch is far superior in attachment to the chassis and in cosmetic looks than any of the aftermarkets. Plus it comes with the wiring harness to plug into the convertor. This is only for the RX-330 with the factory towing pack option. Search out the hitch thread and check the pics.

Thanks for the information. I would like to know some experiences people have had towing 2000lbs. For example does it pull ok when climbing a hill does it brake ok, etc.

Any insite would be greatly appreciated. This is the one thing that is holding me back from purchasing.

Thanks,

Ken

We have no problems with power. I figure we're towing around 2500 lbs with the boat and trailer. With PWCs, I don't think you'd even notice it. Our biggest problem was the boat was bigger than the car, so it was hard (impossible) to see behind the car. We really don't think we had any issues with the brakes due to the trailering, but we have 65K miles on the car and have had the brakes done twice. But the boat only was about 1500 miles total of all of that.

Do you have a clue how hard it is to install the junction block yourself?
