changed headlight assembly afs light flashing on dash would like to disable it .
can’t find afs ecu location

 

Did the AFS light flash prior to the new headlight assembly replacement? If not, maybe I can help you with procedures to diagnose the issues.

But if you still prefer to disable the AFS ECU, see the attached.

What did you replace your headlights with?

I’m assuming your old headlights were equipped with the AFS mechanisms to automagically level your headlights and follow your car as it turns in which case you probably replaced it with an aftermarket headlight that doesn’t have all “that” and the connectors that were left “unplugged” is causing the AFS light to flash. Following the instructions above to disable that AFS light will fix it from flashing but if you want to fix it the “right way”, you can remove all the parts that were left behind in your old headlights and install them in the new ones assuming they have all the mounting points of an OEM headlight. That’s what I did with my 2006 RX400h. While it wasn’t easy, it’s doable if you are patient. It will save you a lot of money vs a complete OEM AFS headlight.

I have OEM Headlights with AFS.
Long story short, the light came on one day, i saw my rear passenger side ride height sensor was totally corroded, so i replaced it. But AFS light still flashes on even after doing the reset button push. I plugged my OBDII scanner on and i had an old code for driver side headlight error related to afs ( cant remember what it was), but i'm able to manually actuate each headlight with my scan tool and they seem operational to me. Sometimes after i've driven my car for a while the afs light will stay off and they work.
Is it possible there's some module or swivel motor within my headlight that needs to be replaced? and can i replace that said module without opening my headlight? which i'm not gonna do since these are in mint condition still.
i'm resigned to live with it as it is unless you can help me. My sister drives this car now but it's still in the family and it's something i would like to get to the bottom of.

It's not easy. It is easier to disconnect and reconnect the ECU-IG NO2 fuse to see if it will turn off the AFS light.

If you installed an aftermarket headlight assembly, then all the bets are off. I don't want to lead you and me down the rabbit hole.

Drive the vehicle for couple of miles on a curvy road with the headlight on the whole way, not just on right turns or left turns.

Scan the vehicle ECM and BCM for any B or U codes, then we'll go from there.

Scan the vehicle for any fault codes. Maybe the AFS ECU just needs initialization or there are still issues with the height control sensor circuit.

Having replaced all the guts of my AFS headlights without any guidance, yes it’s possible but you have to remove the headlight from the car which requires loosing the bumper enough to get to a couple of screws located behind it. Once you have the headlight out all the parts are accessible through the cover that holds the HID lightbulb. There is at least one AFS assembly that’s easy to access behind the cover. If you are lucky and that’s the AFS part that needs to replaced and you can find its replacement then you shouldn’t have too much trouble replacing it. If I remember correctly the other AFS part is a little more difficult to access but certainly not as bad as removing the entire assembly and putting it in another OEM headlight as most of the aftermarket headlights I looked at don’t have the mounting positions molded into them and specifically will warn you they are NOT HID headlights as well.

 

Thanks for the info. I can get the bumper and headlight off the vehicle quick but I just don't want to bake the headlights open, it is time consuming and a pita for me. Once I get the car back I'll scan for the exact code. I'll go thru my notes and see if I wrote it down somewhere
