I used to use the power tailgate when i got the RX but decided to lift by hand for the past two years, overnight the gas strut shocks went out, so tried to use the power lift, red light came on the key fob and a dim one time thud noise from the motor button on dash does nothing.. anyone had this problem... getting new struts..

Got it fixed..dam button in glovebox

 

if the struts are stuffed the motor will not lift the boot lid.

 

This^^^^^Like mentioned, If the struts are shot the motor isn't going to lift the heavy hatch w/o assistance from good struts.......

I don't know this for a fact but I suspect that keeping the trunk struts new and fresh can help the trunk lid motor last the lifetime of the car.

 

Sounds logical. The motor doesn't have to work as hard.
