Default Changing Spark Plugs & Wires

I've watched several YouTube videos on how to change the spark plugs and coils on a RX300 1999 - 2003 3.0L without tearing off the top of the engine. Would also apply to plug wires. Can I change those back three plugs, coils and wires without taking off the upper part of the engine? Thank you.

There are no high voltage wires which needed replacement in old points + distributor. Now you have coils and spark plugs. There is wire connector and low voltage wires that lead to the coils. I personally have replaced the back ones (and the front) without removing any thing. I used assorted extensions to reach spark-plug-socket down in the hole.I did need a magnet to fish out and drop-in the plug and the socket.

Make sure that you use OEM plugs. If you use some other brand or type, they may or may not work for you. 110-115K miles is the recommended change interval.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think my original question was very clear. I'm referring to replacing the spark plug wires. I need to replace the spark plugs, coils and spark plug wires. I'm trying to find out if I can also change the spark plug wires without dismantling the top of the engine. Thanks - bbambrough

There is no such thing. You have harness [if you want to replace will cost hundreds and labor if paid in thousands]. The coil packs plug into the harness and you said you will replace them and then the spark plugs. Just see for yourself for bank2, the one near radiator. Identical setup but access is limited in the back.

By "spark plug wires" do you mean the wires and connectors that feed the coils? I'm not aware of anyone ever changing them.
Is there a reason to do it?

There is a separate thread on replacing the spark plugs. There are more elaborate and maybe easier way of removing the plugs, but I just want to confirm that the task can be accomplished by not removing the intake. Just make sure you have the small ratchet extensions. Also do not gap the new plugs as they come pre-gapped and bending the electrode will weaken it.

It depends on how big your hands are. Mine are small, so I was able to replace the back three plugs without taking off the upper part of the engine.

If you are interested, I 'll post the video from somebody else showing how to do it.
